What Are You Thinking? Continued 7

If you don’t like Amazon, you don’t have to shop there. You can go to the store (in normal times) or shop on other sites. Everyone can. The thing is Amazon has the best mousetrap right now. People freely choose to go there to spend their money. And they constantly have to earn everyone’s business.

People rail against Walmart as if they’ve done something evil. If people didn’t freely choose them, they would be out of business. Markets constantly evolve. Do you remember when Apple lost its battle with MS and was relegated to the sidelines in the tech industry? Things change, and it will for Amazon as well. Some startup someday will bring a new idea to the market and Amazon will need to compete.

Government regulations often stifle competition and reward entrenched players. They’re not the consumers friend.

But one person martyring themselves does literally nothing to help the situation. Sure, I could stop buying from Amazon completely... OR alternately, I could bring up that it's a problem and have a discussion about it with rational people.

Having a conversation and acknowledging a problem does more than me to just say "Oh well I'm not buying from Amazon." I don't think Amazon is 100% a problem... but what I'm saying is that it's becoming a problem.

So again, let me ask my question again since you didn't answer it....

Is this good for the economy? If you think it is... okay. That's a weird take, but hey, Donald Trump is our president. So...

The economy is indifferent to it. What does the economy care where we buy our goods and services? If you’re talking about a monopoly, it’s not one because the markets are very fragmented. Amazon is just doing things better which is why people are buy from them.

What product or service do you now have to overpay for because they squeezed out the competition?

So, Amazon now sells products online, they own a pharmacy, they have a food delivery service, and probably much more that I don't even know.

How is that good for the economy? How is monopolization good for the economy?

That's my question.

Was that a straw man fallacy or a red herring that you committed? Uhhh... I think red herring... though I could be wrong.

I'm not quite sure either of those terms applies, exactly. I did tell a fib, though—the dildo did in fact fail, but so far I have only complained to the manufacturer. I'm afraid of Amazon.

Actually, none. However, it's only a matter of time before they buy out CVS and Walgreens. CVS is already a huge problem.

But guess what? If Amazon takes over pharmacy, we're not talking about money anymore. We're talking about people's lives.

Simple. Dont buy anything from Amazon. But why should your fear interfere with me shopping there? My choice. Stop bitching...or would you like me sticking my nose in your business?

Well, difficult to argue with your imagination. Here’s the list of the largest companies in 1970. Many of the companies aren’t around anymore.

Oh feel free. I'm so used to Conservatives sticking their noses in my business, wanting to regulate my personal life... it's common.

Conservatives would rather regulate people's lives than to regulate big corporate, which is hilarious to me.

Only problem...I am a Democrat. Have been for 40 years. Your fear is irrational. You arent important enough for me to waste time on.

Imagination? You mean the process in which we critically think, ask questions, and don't accept the status quo? You mean simply considering that what we're doing now isn't working? Thinking that there could possibly be a solution to a problem?

I mean... America is only trillions of dollars in debt... obviously something isn't working. And eventually, it will break. Eventually. So, we have the conversation about how to fix it or... we just wait for it to break.

Oh! Okay.... I'm sincerely sorry.

Let me ask it this way then... HEY LIBERALS... is it good for the economy to have Amazon monopolizing the entire market with no government regulation?

It's 9:30 at night why won't my neighbors quiet down? Stop cheering it's too late and it's a Monday.

I have a few hundred dollars in Amazon gift cards and would love to spend them but dont really need shit. I will gladly give ‘em to you shit talking muh fuckers unless some girl wants to show me them tiddies first.

Let's cut to the chase--we're just gonna have to start cuttin' bitches.

Listen, if I were 100 years old like you, I wouldn't care either. It's no big deal.

But for those of us who are going to be around for a while, I'd like to consider the potential future of our economy.

There is no monopoly. I know this is over your head. Amazon's forte is distribution. Not the products being distributed.

I was referring to your conclusion that Amazon entering the pharmacy business was going to end with death. Yes, let’s talk but Amazon hasn’t killed anyone yet through their entering the pharmaceutical business so let’s not assume that will be where it ends.

The Indian scammers got you with the old gift card scam, huh?

This is why I can't take you seriously at all.

They bought out a pharmacy and could potentially kill all competition.

I don't care if I die tomorrow, but I have young adult children whom I'd like to have hopes for something like the life I had during the brief American heyday that everyone took for granted. Their prospects make me much sadder than my own.

No, people are always giving them to me as gifts or for favors I have done. Honestly, I would rather shop at WalMart. They are a way more entertaining Monopoly dont you think? Pretty sure I saw you jerking off there for the latest World Of Warcraft when it came out.

Well put...

I think Amazon accounts for about 4% of all US retail with about 30% market share in e-commerce. Hardly a monopoly portion and well dispersed among multiple industries.

One could argue that they hold a great majority of influence in the books and electronics market....but I can’t see where that has impacted consumers negatively.

Amazon won’t allow itself to become monopolistic. If it did, the Fed would force it to break up - losing its buying power. WHICH is, right now, only a benefit to consumers and the economy. If Amazon were gouging prices, it would be a different story.

It already has, dude!

CVS is killing people now. I know that for a fact. Now, if you don't believe me and think it's my imagination... then read that New York Times article. And if you don't believe that, then... I guess this is the end of our conversation.

And I really really hope... that you enjoy your quality customer service at CVS and/or PillPack in the upcoming future. You might want to download an app on your phone to check any meds you receive at the pharmacy... before you end up being the next victim.

Oh no... actually I do take a stance against buying anything Blizzard, and that includes World of Warcraft. I don't play WoW and I never have.
