America WAS a great nation, but Trump has robbed us of our greatness

Donald Trump’s response to the coronavirus pandemic, which he once dismissed as a hoax, has been fiercely criticised at home as woefully inadequate to the point of irresponsibility.

Yet also thanks largely to Trump, a parallel disaster is unfolding across the world: the ruination of America’s reputation as a safe, trustworthy, competent international leader and partner.

Call it the Trump double-whammy. Diplomatically speaking, the US is on life support.

“The Trump administration’s self-centered, haphazard, and tone-deaf response [to Covid-19] will end up costing Americans trillions of dollars and thousands of otherwise preventable deaths,” wrote Stephen Walt, professor of international relations at Harvard.

“But that’s not the only damage the United States will suffer. Far from ‘making America great again’, this epic policy failure will further tarnish [its] reputation as a country that knows how to do things effectively.”

I think that most can see mainly the Trump in this, which can be cleared up significantly just by cutting the rot that is Trump out and throwing it away.

That does leave a really screwed-up citizen support system in the United States exposed, though.

Remember what Trump's enablers tried to do to America's 9/11 responders ?

Jon Stewart criticised Rand Paul's blocking of the 9/11 Compensation Fund Vote

Jon Stewart and 9/11 first responders excoriate GOP senators who blocked renewal
of funding for 9/11 victims.

Jon Stewart told Fox News Wednesday it's "outrageous" that Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.)
backed President Trump’s $1.5 trillion tax cuts adding "hundreds of billions of
dollars to our deficit" but he voted against 9/11 first responders' funding.

Details: Paul cited national debt concerns when he voted along with Sen. Mike Lee
(R-Utah) against a Senate bill that would extend the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund,
which is running out of money. Stewart said making first responders "beg for something
that this country should have done 14 years ago" was "an abomination."

The people that enable and support Trump would pull the statue of Liberty down
and sell her for scrap metal.

China has spoken

Thanks for the update from China. This kind of propaganda is always good for a laugh.

Impeached president Trumps mishandling of the hoax covid19 pandemic reminds me of the Kentucky town council, or was it in Tennessee, that ruled that citizens could only pee in the southeastern corner of the municipal swimming pool.

Removing the Rot from the nation will require removing all Rethuglicunts as well as Trumpski and his whole administration! This should be done as soon as possible, and extreme prejudice is not TOO extreme in this case!

:)

Once again Trump is taking his orders from Putin who would like nothing more than to see the USA turned into a banana republic so he could conquer us without a fight.

Gotta go with the Subway menu. And it's not even close.

Over the last few weeks, it has started to appear as though, in addition to abandoning the states to their own devices in a time of national emergency, the federal government is engaging in an organized campaign to sabotage the efforts of state governments to purchase their own supplies.

States that are trying to manage their own resources, buying equipment themselves with incredibly scarce resources to aid in a time of crisis, are being stopped, and those resources seized by the federal government.

You could call this piracy...or mob tactics....or even a form of biological terrorism. The federal government is choking supply chains to states and endangering American lives. The rationale for this sabotage against governors and doctors who are trying to save lives is — indeed the policy is inexplicable and indefensible.

Which may be one reason why no explanation has been given. We don’t know where these supplies are going. We don’t know on what grounds they are being seized, or threatened with seizure. What business do the DHS and FEMA have with ventilators and PPE purchases by governors and local hospitals? “

And your incite comes from what? Fox "News"? Didn't they just have to fire an anchor because she was such a drag that even Fox got embarrassed? The Drudge Report? Aren't Matty boy and his little fedora having a bitch fight with Daddy Donny?

I remember when you were on here pretending to be a girl and you said Forbes was the only reliable source, dawn. That was a pretty low day for you.

I'll presume that the word "incite" was used intentionally and correctly here. ;)

So, much winning.

The United States of America has 4.25 percent of the world's population. Yet, even with low per capita testing, we have 33% of the recorded world COVID cases and nearly 27% of the recorded COVID deaths!

DO TRUMP'S SUPPORTERS REALLY BELIEVE THIS IS WHAT WINNING LOOKS LIKE?

Sure they do! We're number one in cases and deaths! What's not to be proud of? They happily excused Bush for ignoring all the warning signs of September 11th so what's September 11 times 20 (and counting) to them?

It's a job well done.

Suppose Trump wins the popular vote. Would you accept that as a decision of where America wants to go? Would he still be un-American? What percentage does he need?

As the beloved union of states disintegrates what shall we do?

Already several states have started serious negotiations to break off into their own country. Who can blame them? They should have started a year ago.

But for those of us who are willing to do ANYTHING to keep this great nation together WHAT can we do? Calling our representatives doesn't seem to make a difference. Voting doesn't make a difference. Recycling as much as possible hasn't made a difference. I even wear a "Make America Whole Again" hat (get it?) but I just get blank stares.

BOTTOM LINE: Everyone sees the nation collapsing but no one is doing ANYTHING about it except complaining. So frustrating!

Personally I hope he wins in the landslide he's predicting. Another 4 years of trump will provide the greatest reality TV ever. It will be beautiful, perfect. Civil war within 2 years of of the election. Trump nuking rebel states. Can you imagine the spectacle. Fantastic.

Of course if he loses he'll claim there was massive fraudulent voting and refuse to step down which of course will lead to the same result, civil war.

Really, it's a win/win for the rest of us on the outside looking in and laughing our heads off.

And as people in states like Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi and Oklahoma refuse to take the threat of the virus seriously, there's been a disquieting lack of testing and social distancing in these places. Expect the next big wave of deaths to cut through these parts of the country.

This doesn't look like winning to me.

interesting thread and good discussion... rather than raise our country up, trump is destined to make us an isolated, third-world country... we have surpassed most growth indicators in the wrong way: health, health care, life and longevity, education, advanced education, manufacturing... like digging a hole trying to get out when he grabs a second shovel and digs even deeper..

One thing we do know is that the United States will have a smaller population due to Trump's efforts after he's eradicated.

makes you wonder what darwin would say right about now...

Actually, sorry to say, Darwin would probably say this was a beneficial strengthening of the base. The virus is mostly taking the old and infirm. Physically, this meets with Darwin's "survival of the fittest" concept.

The old and infirm are still able to contribute to society. Compassion is a survival asset. We wouldn’t have compassion if it wasn’t.

The issue was what would Darwin's take on it be, not yours or mine.
