Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker signed an order that will require all residents to wear face coverings in public.

The order, which was signed Friday, is set to go into effect on May 6. The rule applies to all workers and customers at businesses across the state, according to*NBC Boston. The order will not apply to children under the age of 2 or those with health conditions that make wearing a mask not possible.

“I think we all believe that as part of the strategy around some sort of reopening, people are going to need a mask or a face covering if they're going to be close to people. You can't always stay 6 feet away,” Baker, a Republican, said on Friday.

Overall, not an attractive populace.

This is a policy that could be extended for a decade to the appreciation of other citizens.

LOL - very true. You always know the gate of the people going to Boston when at the airport. Not the most attractive people in the terminal for sure.

I think it is the weather. For six months a year (in most years but not recently with global warming and climate change) everyone wears bulky clothes. Good excuse for extra perogies and rolls and butter and gravy and taters and stuffing all the good stuff.

Bostonians are not unattractive but let's just say they should remain committed to each other because outside of that amazing city...well, they don't have a chance.

Butters was talking in another thread about making masks at home for Harry out of his honda scooter shirts with a built in ball gag.

I'm still trying to figure out what law they're using to mandate this.

Someone show me where the State can require that I wear a specific type of garment when in public under penalty of punishment for failing to do so.

You would have kept the lights on and the drapes open during the Blitz...because Freedom, right?

Never heard of an executive order in a declared emergency?

The State cannot suspend the US Constitution. Not even in an emergency.

Attempting to do so is called tyranny.

So, what State or Federal law allows the State to MANDATE that I wear a specific item of clothing when in public?

First, a mask of this sort is not thought to be a piece of clothing. It is a protective item. You can be forced to wear a hard hat. OSHA can force you to wear a lot of things. And I refer you back to executive powers in emergencies. They are a real thing, dipshit.

In a work environment, not casually walking down the street.

The Governor cannot, by executive fiat, just declare or mandate something that violates the US Constitution.

It's because of a thing called the "Supremacy Clause".

Now, on the other hand, the State CAN pass a law which mandates the wearing of specific safety gear for specific activities - hard hats, motorcycle helmets, etc. - but I don't see that extending to "articles of clothing for normal everyday wear in public".

And certainly the Governor cannot just wave his magic pen and make up a law anytime he sees fit. Not even under his emergency powers because those powers are limited by the law which gives him those powers.

So, where's the specific law which supports the governor doing this?

I have idea, how about just wear the damn mask? Why the argument? Is it going to hurt you physically?

We are in a pandemic, and Mass isn't doing well. So stop picking shit apart and just do it. You are all a bunch of whiners.

I think most people will comply with wearing PPE, that's not the issue. Issuing a public mandate complete with arresting powers and fines is unconstitutional. Where does it stop? Politicians love power, unopposed, they take till they're stopped. It's up to the governor to provide guidance not impose a dictatorship. As you can see people are getting tired of government pushing them around. I come from MA, what's going on is fucking stupid. Why would you close down a car wash? Or be forced to wear a mask while walking your dog, on and on!

Then show us what precise language in the Constitution this executive order violates.

So an airline can’t force you to don a mask before being allowed aboard? Just watch.

A head covering is a head covering.

dipshit.

And face east ... towards Mecca.

The closest I've been to an airplane of any kind in 25 years is when they fly over my house.
