What's so special about him?

Any epidemiologist would do just as good a job, if not better.

He's got many accomplishments that lead to respect. But for me, right now, he is a science-driven advisor to whom Trump appears to be listening. He's been able to communicate science to and influence Trump and numerous other presidents over many years. That is special.

I remember thinking in mid-March that two small positives that might come out of this pandemic would be that the country would come together again and that science would be appreciated a bit more.

Where Fauci is getting push back is because of his inordinate presence on the MSM. As a Dr. he is obviously concerned with peoples health, you can't fault him there. But there is also the economic component to this Wuhan Flu. While some peoples lives are being saved, other peoples lives are being destroyed. Fauci is not concerned with the economics of the situation, and that's not his job anyway.

The way the MSM is playing this they're following Fauci's line of shut down until next year sometime. I doubt that Fauci is really pushing that line but that's how the press is interpreting it to the public. And the public is starting to get pissed off. The press, in playing Fauci off against Trump, is the source and the reason for any problems Fauci is having.

As of February 29, there were only 70 cases in the U.S., and most of them were from the Diamond Princess Cruise. At that time, it seems like his advice to the public was reasonable given there was not evidence of widespread community spread in the U.S. at that time. He did say "it could change".

He was regularly receiving intelligence reports of what was coming. Only a dunce would believe it wasn't going to spread here regardless. But it was going to spread worse if nothing was done about it. Trump did worse than that--for six weeks he did nothing to prepare for what he was being told was coming and he denied it was coming, made fun it those who thought it would, and had stripped out all of the defenses against it. All of this finger pointing now is an attempt to deflect from his obstructionist behavior that started with six weeks of waste and has just continued at the federal level. I was trying to point out the double standards.
