Why are people trying to smear Anthony Fauci?

I just don't get it. Does anyone have a reasonable, thoughtful explanation for this?

I also don't understand why people do zoombombing, but that's another topic.

Because he facepalmed when standing next to Trump as Trump was telling Americans lies, falsehoods, and B.S. in general. Not only that, but Trump also didn't listen to him or the other medical experts regarding the virus. Trump would rather have Dr. Phil on his team.

But Trump is still keeping him on his team, right? And I think he does respect Fauci. Or maybe I'm behind in the news.

I remember thinking in mid-March that two small positives that might come out of this pandemic would be that the country would come together again and that science would be appreciated a bit more.

Where is this smearing going on?

Hope it goes to Fauci breaking with the Trump coverup team and going with the various governor coalitions--further highlighting that Trump isn't just doing nothing; he's obstructing.

I don't think Fauci sees himself as being on any team aside from the "protect public health" team; hence the problem.

Some people really don't want to hear the scientific perspective if it contradicts their ideology, religion, prejudice set, or economic interests. There is smear movement against Fauci, because, dammit-all, this whole pandemic thing is inconvenient.

Similar to the denial of global warming, but in this case, the consequences of denial happen much more rapidly. 63,000 Americans killed in the last couple of months. If we keep it up, we may end up with the highest per capita COVID death rate in the so-called developed world.

Poor Trump doesn't know whether to shit or go blind. I mean, he had Fauci telling him that this pandemic would kill way more than the initial victims in Washington state, but then he had the right-wing ear worms saying that the whole thing is just another hoax or conspiracy bent on instituting socialism and "reversing the results of the 2016 election".

He stood at the podium and told Trump and the Nation that Trump did not have ONE clue about what was happening.

It was one of the great moments of all times.

It's a good ideal to believe in, but I wouldn't hold your breath on it.

It's 2020 and our country is still full of people this stupid. The stupid is generational and firmly baked into the crust of our pie. We should've been making moon colonies, terraforming deserts into food gardens and building stargates by now.

NOPE. The stupid will always hold us back. Be ready to grow old with this shit.

I think you're mistaken, you must be thinking of Canada. :)

America is toast if the fucker wins in 2020.

Though Dr. Fauci's projects were about as accurate as a gypsy palm reader (the palm reader a distinguished member of WHO), he did come across as authoritative - in his area of expertise - early on. Eventually, his ego pushed him towards a more prominent role when he should have been thanked and then sidelined unless otherwise needed.

The WH press conferences should have been 15-20 minutes instead of 45 minutes anyway. Very repetitive after 15 minutes.

At this point the esteemed virologist Greta Thunberg should take over. Someone introduce her to a map with China on it.

And there you have the Trumpette line on smearing Dr. Fauci, folks.

Because he’s an educated scientist. That is reason enough for Trump and his base to disparage him.

At a time when Trump was still publicly stating that COVID was "totally under control" in the U.S., Fauci was citing epidemiology models that predicted 100,000 to 250,000 deaths in the U.S.

Looks like we'll hit the lower part of that range before the end of the summer, if not earlier.

Fauci dared to contradict the impeached President about "packing the churches" this past Easter. Fauci dared to contradict the impeached President about promoting unproven treatments with malaria drugs. Cult followers don't like those smarty-pants scientists who contradict the cult leader.

Part of America is deeply involved in a cult of personality. Armed cults are dangerous.

Yet Trump is still letting him stand by his side, and appears to listen to him. Which gives me some hope. But some of Trump's followers still are ready to crucify Fauci.

only one deplorable checked in and it was just a lame performance alt

Armed personality cult that is openly hostile to science and education. There have been a few, I think. Pol Pot Red Khmer rouge come to mind.

If those from here who talk about guns, Trump, owning Libs, rebellion against the stay-at-home mandates and anti-social-distancing, etc. had the balls to carry out their "mission", we would be in trouble.

Luckily for us Americans, they only carry out their insane thoughts on the internet so we are safe from their misplaced bravado.

Honestly, I'm starting to get fed up with this God Fauci worship.

What's so special about him?

Any epidemiologist would do just as good a job, if not better.
Fauci was more of a lab rat than an epidemiologist or public health doctor.

And I heard that he used to behave like a bitch towards his employees.
