There is a documentary about studio musicians called Hired Gun that I watched awhile back. There is one of these fellas highlighted who was Billy Joel's drummer for something like 30 years. He fired the cat without so much as a phone call.
That is a bullshit, heartless move.
I get creative differences and maybe wanting to try something new. That is the process, but when you have 30 years sharing a stage and road with a dude you owe him a little decency at the very least.


And now that kind of douchery taints his brilliance.
