It's as American as motherhood, baseball, and Apple pie.

Several mayors and more than a few businesses have told the governor and select mayors that enough is enough, "We're opening for business." Some this coming Monday, others on the 1st of May. It's actually quite refreshing to see.

What's happening in your state?

We have Cuomo....nothing is definite...

We throw rocks at the morons who endanger the sane people in my state.

Our state doesn't have an idiot repug governor and actually cares about the health of its residents and doesn't want boomers overwhelming the healthcare system.

Say, liberals tell folks not to inject themselves with bleach, wonder how many crotchety Boomer deplorables will practice civil disobedience with that one?

Because we all know, righties never follow the advice from the libbies. :)

Quebec is the epicenter in Canada. We are doing slow opening anyway. This includes schools. School opening will vary depending on the cases in the neighborhood. More details will be released next week.

I don't wanna go back to the way it was...........................................

The Wuhan Flu doesn't like the French? ;)

Everyone here has noticed that the big box stores are still operating, as are virtually all of the national chains. It's the local businesses, even if they sell the same stuff as the national boys, that are getting screwed over. In that the governor has declared them "non-essential" then no one is obligated to patronize those establishments, are they?

Our governor is a Pelosi trained lackey whose election was bought and paid for by Bloomberg. I think (hope) she's going to be a one term governor.

We are under a stay at home order for another month. Everyone must wear masks in public starting May 1st. :(

Lucky you. *chuckle*

Good time to take up armed robbery.

"Can you describe the robber?"

"No, he/she was wearing a mask."

People told me that unlike countries like Australia&NZ &South Korea& European,
the US's system and (consumer-based) economy make it impossible to shut down the country for long.

So I see why so many Republicans and laypeople are keen to re-open.
If they stay shut down for too long, then people risk losing their houses or starving.

But what perplexes me and even infuriates me at times in this forum,
is the all-or nothing attitude from some of them:
"Fuck the virus and social distancing, they're lying about the models and about the covid-related deaths anyway. My freedom, my choice, my body, I also want to have my hair done and eat at restaurants like I used to."

In CA the statewide stay at home order is in effect until further notice. I haven’t heard of anything reopening any time soon, not schools, not restaurants, not anything. Newsom says we’ll have a gradual reopening based on six key indicators... testing, hospital capacity, something, something, something... I don’t know. Most people here trust him, though. I know I do.

As I said earlier, if you don't like the way an establishment is handling the situation, don't patronize it.

None of these governors have the slightest clue as to what's going on. They're listening to the doctors who could give a shit less about the economy. It doesn't even factor into their "opinions." And let's be clear, they are voicing opinions.

Would it be nice if all of these actions end the problem? You bet it would. But they aren't going to. This virus is persistent, pernicious, and is going to be around for a long, long, time.

There is a large, and growing, group of people out there that are refusing to live their lives in fear.

And it's not all or nothing. You can still practice reasonable precautions and go about your life.

Once you've decided the people in the other party are always wrong (not that the dangers posed by this disease should be a partisan issue in a normal society), it leads you down some pretty illogical paths.

Apparently it does not like the French. There are a few theories out there but no one knows anything yet.

True about the big box stores. They have had breakouts among employees but nothing major. Single digits, here and there.

Horrible on our elderly. A lot is contributing to that. Lack of care and lack of hygiene has not helped.

I do go out most days. But I don't fool around. I do what I need to do and no more. I do go outside. I take walks. I drive. I wear a mask, wash my hands and use hand sanitizer after anything is touched.

Sooner or later, something has to give. There is no way it can stay like this.

Illinois is run by Stalinists. I think many will revolt and open up May first despite the orders.

I was just talking to Vat about that. This is a actuaries dream bug. It kills those over 65 and those with pre-existing. No more pension payouts, nor more social security payouts, no more medicare payouts, no more chronic illness payouts. Trust me, there are people in every nations capital rejoicing.

My state gov gave a covid19 update two days ago.
When asked about the stay at home order he pretty much said something like it’ll be discussed next week.

Realistically, they can't keep the stay at home orders up forever. Honestly, we're living in a new reality. The quicker we figure out how to navigate through our lives as safely as possible, the better.

The problem is going to be figuring out exactly how dystopian this "new" reality is.

I don't consider myself to be an optimist, but I'm pretty sure we'll look back on this from some future perspective and laugh. :)

Nazi Gretchen Whitmer’s ban on traveling between any two Michigan residences and a shuttering of lawn care services. She prevented big box stores from selling certain items like paint and plants, meaning establishments like Home Depot had to tape those aisles off from customers.

She prohibited the use of motorboats, but it allowed the use of boats without motors.
