California's Newsom announces $125M fund to give coronavirus stimulus checks to immigrants in state illegally
Andrew O'Reilly

California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced on Wednesday plans to give cash payments to adult immigrants living illegally in the state to help them weather the coronavirus crisis.

The plan, which would use a mix of taxpayer money and charitable donations from corporations and philanthropists, will give 150,000 adults $500 each during the coronavirus outbreak, the governor said.

California has had an estimated 2 million immigrants living in the country illegally. They have not been eligible for the $2.2 trillion stimulus package approved by Congress last month, which pledged cash payments to most Americans while boosting unemployment benefits by $600 per week.

“We feel a deep sense of gratitude for people that are in fear of deportations that are still addressing essential needs of tens of millions of Californians,” said Newsom, a Democrat, who noted 10 percent of the state's workforce consisted of immigrants living in the country illegally who paid over $2.5 billion in state and local taxes last year.

I think the Federal Gov't should keep track of those illegals who paid taxes, and fine the state of California for each one of 'em.
The going rate, per the law making it unlawful to hire an illegal, is $10,000 a person.

They already pretty much know as many illegals are using phony SS numbers to work. Employers are paying FICA taxes to the government under those phony numbers. So they'd have to know, but probably don't want to give up the money. One wonders where that money really goes.

It's California.
They're paying for it - I don't give a fuck.
They can use all the revenue that the high-speed rail was going to create...

;) ;)

The only thing that bugs me about California
is not that they bend over backwards to make
undocumented citizens the equivalent of full citizens,
but when you say, oaky, we'll ship some of the desirables to California
then it becomes the biggest, angry NIMBY hissy-fit that we are all fit to see...

California logic.

I pay taxes here, so I give a shit. That high-speed rail money came from you as well and the state's policy towards illegals is just as big a threat to you as it is us.:)

PS - besides, isn't the eternal lament that states like mine take in more than they pay out
at the expense of all the Blue States where life is Nirvana; the streets gold-paved?

Basically....as long as they keep it there, they can tax gas at 40$/gal and 90% on anything over 20k/yr. California DESERVES what it gets.

Time to leave. It's just going to get worse...pretty soon you're going to have to house a junkie/illegal migrant in your personal residence.

That is unfortunate about the rail, and not quite, especially if they keep it in state.

Right...

Why haven't you moved yet?

Economics for the most part, but I have made a good start. I do have place I can move to when the time comes. It may be sooner than I had planned. I could sell my house and retire right now but for a couple of business commitments.

And yet they keep voting these fucktards in office. Why?

I doubt that rail will be built. Trump has already taken action to take the unused federal money back.

The biggest problem with the "undocumented resident stimulus" is that it violates equal protection by singling out a specific class for governmental financial favoritism.

You'll love retirement.
Trust me on this one.

When does government not pick out winners among the losers?

It violates federal statutes as well.

*chuckle*

And giving undocumented citizens creates multipliers
that will come back 10-fold in tax revenues...
