Reset?

Anyone else catch Trump's virus team White House press conference at noon today (Saturday) and see in it a president as chastened as he's likely ever to be and more of a regearing to reality?

He was as careful as I've ever seen him to keep the partisanship and craziness out of it and not to be standing in the way (even wore a "USA" hat rather than a "MAGNA" one). Other than going off on the FED chief to a limited (for him--it was in response to a question) extent, he was supportive of taking this serious and seriously working on it in helpful ways and on the House action overnight.

Most important, if a bit strange, since it came from a reporter's question when it seemed like Trump was going to leave the room without taking questions, he said (whether true or not) that he'd now taken a test after all those virus positive people he's had roaming around him and allowed as how he shouldn't be shaking people's hands--especially for public view. A bow to science.

These are steps away from his dogged denial positions far into this.

This, of course, doesn't change the disastrous negative influence he's been up to this point, but what looked like a standing down effort by Trump today seems a hopeful, needed sign and administration reset.

Other thought on this?

Now if they can get those tests out there and working.

I have to mute the sound when he's on. I should use the closed caption option but I doubt that would make any sense either. In addition to not having a clue how to spin this disaster his way politically, I expect that he and all the other virtuous people around him are seeking ways to profit from the sale of test kits and hand sanitizer.

That doesn't really address what I saw as a reset. We've got to get out of this. I saw a reset this morning. You don't have to forget all that's happened before or suddenly believe in the man to appreciate signs of a "getting out of the way" reset as beneficial and needed now.

That's not helpful either. Did you see today's news conference, or are you just knee-jerking?

2020 "I'm here to make a buck" ~Donald Trump~

Sure, and that's basic Trump for you--even in having a time or two used the Truman quote on others. But that isn't really responsive to this thread either.

Not sure what you're looking for. If you think Donny is having some sort of remorse, that ain't possible. He ain't got no 'remorse' genes. If you're thinking his handlers have finally taken hold of him, that was the point of ...
That’s John Gill, from Star Trek.
He's a puppet. Just a question of who has their hand up his ass.

A reset (more cooperative, less obstructive). I thought I made clear it wasn't going to be a personality change.

Again, you didn't see the press conference, I assume. If that's the case, you wouldn't be in a position to discuss the possible reset signaled there--you'd just be working with preexisting fumes. You might find tracking a video down and watching it informative.

I have seen the press conference and it is by a distance the most measured response on pretty much anything I have seen from Donald Trump. Pretty impressive and set the right tone - almost Presidential.

I got the impression that someone who Trump respects has just closed the door and told him very bluntly what he was getting wrong. I have seen pretty senior guys in the past with that "taken behind the bleachers and given a real thrashing look."

Will it last or be a re-set, probably not, but for the moment at least, it is a welcome change from the absurd political polarization of everything.

Someone he trusts very much convinced him that this was essential. That didn't stop him, however, from his basic personality flaw of self-congratulatory boasting for events over which he has minimal control: (ie. "the stock market had it's best day ever after I declared the National Emergency") The man has the attention span of a guppy (or thinks his base must be dimwitted) when he uses obfuscation to distract the bases' attention. Of course, we all forgot that there were 3 major drops in days prior to his declaration and the best so-called day ever got the DJIA back to levels not seen since January of 2019 when we started to recover from the autumn of 2018 "correction".

Rex Tillerson was correct. The man is a moron. It was a good "Reset" by the experts but Herr Drumpf will make a decision to tweet or berate or go off on a tangent at his next opportunity.

Yeah, Ivanka probably persuaded him that if he wanted to be re-elected and not have history pile on too much about his coronavirus response then he needed to have this temporary reset.

Or maybe it was Hannity.
