OK, so I’m sort of a numbers guy. I have a thing for obscure stats, and this certainly qualifies as obscure: My 5th Lit piece posted in August 2005, and I FINALLY had another one published this week.

I’m guessing that fourteen and a half years separating stories may well be the Literotica record for longest gap between submissions. Alert the Guinness people!

Anyone out there with a similar story?

First, let me say Welcome back!

Something I had noticed as a trend over the years before I finally started writing and submitting my own stuff was that there were an awful lot of authors who wrote for a year and a half or so and then quit. Lately I have seen a bunch of those "old hands" returning to resume writing after a long hiatus.

Since the site has only been around a little over 20 years, I believe your record is secure. :)

I love it 😻- welcome back. In 2005 I was barely in double digits myself. Lol 😆

My most embarrassing gap is between chapters two and three of Chistmas Fairy - August 2004 to August 2017.

I've been lurking and reading here since around 2005 (writing since 2016) so I know there have been some authors who have taken long breaks, but I can't think of any longer than that off the top of my head.

Congratulations on your return.

Welcome back,

This is sly, a nice try to appeal to my competitive nature. But it won't work. I will not wait until September of 2034 to bombard you with my latest creation.

In fact if I write enough dreck, all of you will read one of them, if only by accident!

EH, HA, HA, HA! (Evil mad-scientist laugh)

First of all, thanks for the welcome backs! I love that Lit fosters a supportive community. At least sometimes.

Yeah, that’s sort of what I thought. Inauspicious as it may be. What it really does is highlight my inefficiency and basic laziness.

Yikes! That’s some sobering perspective! I wasn’t barely double digits in 2005, I just acted that way…which hasn’t changed.

I will add that you’re the one with a story description name-checking a 40-year-old tune. :D (Never mind that my latest submission is packed with song references from the ‘80s and early ‘90s…)

Yay! Now I have another one on my gotta-read list.

That's awesome to hear, and I'd appreciate it! Though I’ll admit to being intimidated by all of those red Hs on your page…

OMG, we’re closer to 2034 than 2005. Please see my comment above about sobering perspective. Let's just hope the world makes it. Um, sorry to end on a down note.

I think I may have a gap of as much as ten days between submissions over fourteen years of submitting--but I think that's because I was in a ship on the sea without a wifi connection.

I can’t comprehend how prolific many Lit authors are, including some in this thread. I mean, it can take me days to write a damn paragraph.

Sometimes it's life. It's mostly life. For a while my life was hectic and I was seriously depressed, one thing after another. If left alone long enough I could do some writing as long as my attention span allowed.

I just checked; 07/30/2009 to 04/11/2017 (almost 8 years w/o a published story).

It seemed longer, but I was doing a lot of traveling during that time. I've only published 29 works (which includes 14 chapters in 3 stories) — so really I only have 18 published stories. Not too impressive considering a join date of 2007 and about 14 years of that somewhat active.

Excuses, excuses, Yukon. Get on with it, man ;).
