Pence refuses to allow recording at coronavirus meeting presser

Backlash Erupts After Trump WH Bans Audio, Video Recording
of Latest Coronavirus Briefing

March 3, 2020

Constraining the press to a so-called pen-and-pad briefing
quickly stoked criticism online that the Trump administration
is more concerned with managing its reputation and avoiding
potentially embarrassing footage than rapidly pushing out
critical health information to a nervous American public.

Asked by Jim Acosta why this briefing was not on camera or audio
for Americans, @VP says "I expect we'll be back on camera tomorrow."

According to the World Health Organization, three important best
practices for effective communication during an outbreak are building
trust, making information available early and ensuring transparency.
But how can the public be confident in leadership that has bungled
public health responses before? And how can critical announcements
be made early and transparently to the public when there is a heavy-
handed policing of what scientists can say?

Mike Pence

Two HHS officials said Pence’s office had implemented a top-down
structure by dictating to the agency how it should be communicating
with the public, emphasizing that officials should be honest and open
but refrain from using “alarmist” language about the outbreak in interviews.

The value of video. Ukraine President announcing a bogus investigation - good. Actual facts and figures about a health crisis - bad.

Reminds me of "Duck and Cover" of my youth.:)

I read that Trump put Mike in charge to FAIL, so Trumpski can pick Haley as VP for 2020!

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention appeared to contradict
a prediction made by President Donald Trump this week that the deadly
coronavirus would “miraculously” disappear by April. Instead, CDC
Director Robert Redfield told CNN that it will probably be around
“beyond this season, beyond this year.”

Greg Sargent of the Washington Post percieves a moment
that is advantageous to Democrats-

Trump put Pence in charge of the response after declining to bring
in an outside coordinating “czar," in part because he worried that
this (outside of the Trump Alternative Universe loop) person might
be disloyal — that is, that he or she would tell the country the truth
in a way that didn’t reflect well on him.

Trump’s megalomaniacal insistence on making everything about him —
and his intertwined belief that he can magically mold reality to his benefit —
surely threatens to hamper our response (to coronavirus) in untold ways.

Trump’s chronic inability to admit that anything on his watch is
less than stupendously wonderful.

This pathology is deeply ingrained in this presidency. It infects
everything from his depictions of the economy to his insane
demands of border officials, in addition to (as we’re now seeing)
the government’s handling of a public health crisis.

(Excuses- Not my fault. Their fault. They did not construct an effective
cover-up for me, to protect my (not real) image!)

Feeding Trump's megalomania-

March 2, 2020

Trump retweeted an animated video Sunday night.
His retweet came less than two hours after Seattle
and King County public health officials announced
that a Seattle-area man in his 70s with underlying
health conditions died Saturday of covid-19

in retweeting the two-minute video, produced last year by a
right-wing content creator Trump has previously promoted,
the president yet again celebrated his accomplishments and
trolled his critics at a time in when the death toll for the
coronavirus crisis has surpassed 3,000 on four continents.

As the sickness caused by the Coronavirus already claimed
over 4000 lives, one Italian woman took to Twitter to express
her concerns.

(Very strong and convincing message of her tweets, at the link-)

https://www.boredpanda.com/corona-virus-not-flu-italy-thread/

Bianca started a thread, pleading people to take the virus spread
more seriously than her country did. “Everybody kept saying
“It’s just flu” and now our intensive care units are collapsing,”
she wrote in a tweet. Bianca went on to share some gruesome
statistics as well as a shot from an ICU in Italy. Her tweets not
only brought attention to how seriously one should take the issue,
but also the aspects that were previously unforeseen.

Bored Panda reached out to Bianca for additional comment
and she kindly replied with some information-“I’m a 23yo girl
living in a small [town] near Milan,” she introduced herself.
“When the outbreak started here people weren’t taking it seriously,”
Bianca explained, “They kept saying it’s just the flu”.

https://www.boredpanda.com/corona-vi...-italy-thread/

(A tragic tale, the intensive wards overwhelmed by the number
of deathly ill patients that needed to have artificial breathing support.
Not just grandparents, but parents, young adults and teens.)

(The same problem in the USA- ICU needs more artificial respirators)

“Before the entire Italy shutdown I saw people posting pics on vacation,
going from Lombardy to Ligury beaches like nothing was happening,”
the woman continued. “The results of [them downplaying the issue is]
that our ICU units in Lombardy are collapsing and right now, we have
no more room,” she explained. Bianca also added that people who need
intensive care are being sent to other regions. “Our doctors are exhausted,
I read posts published form healthcare workers and they are begging us
to stay at home,” the toll on the doctors and nurses seems to be reaching
max levels. “This is heartbreaking,” Bianca told us. My advice is to
prevent the spread of this disease,” she continued. “It’s not as deadly
as the hemorrhagic flu, but that’s not just the flu either,” Bianca
expressed her frustration with people underestimating the Coronavirus.

Bianca went on to explain that people’s belief that the virus
only affects elderly people is a false promise.

(20-30 years olds in the ICU)

“You just need to be aware that Covid patients can recover even if
their conditions are bad. But, in order to do so, they might need to
be hospitalized and sometimes they need intubation. If 100 people
per week need intubation maybe we can cope, but if 100 people
per day need intubation we can’t. And that’s no science or fear-
mongering, these are facts. Maybe we can’t stop Covid, but
we can slow it down. And that’s enough!”

Please be cautious you all,’ Bianca warned everyone once again.
“Italy and China don’t’ shut down entire cities for simple flu,”
she concluded.

@ddale8 may advise me to use a grain or two of salt,
when I am confronted with anything from the Trump
Spite House- I feel as if I have been lugging a deer lick
around, all day. I am insistent on keeping it on my lap.
Maybe, I could have someone talented and gifted carve
it into a very large snake, that is in a coil. Remind me
of how Trump is using his position to strangle the life
out of America, and his fangs, that harm people, each
time he opens his mouth.

Reminder- Trump spent his life disappointing other's
expectations, after he made promises. He has spent a
his adult years tormenting his victims in the courts of
law. Sadistic fuckery is one of his hobbies.

Trump would not hide the real number of people infected
with coronavirus, would he ?

About the checklist...

Dear President Trump: I need a coronavirus test right now.
Where is it?

Doctors are sending coronavirus victims home, and untested.

13 Mar 2020

Multiple reports have detailed how Trump did not just ignore
the growing pandemic; he actively sought to block his own
officials’ attempts to track and stop it. Why has there been
such a disastrous lack of testing? Because the president didn’t
want to know the answer, and because his staff were too busy
fighting each other to do the right thing.

“The boss has made it clear he likes to see his people fight,
and he wants the news to be good,” Politico reported one
Trump health adviser saying. “This is the world he’s made.”

Trump administration hijacked 5 million masks from veterans hospitals,
chief physician says

VA officials had denied staff complaints about PPE shortages.

Now, nearly 2,000 health workers are infected.

April 27, 2020

Richard Stone, the executive in charge of the veterans health system said the
Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) directed vendors to send
the masks to the agency rather than the VA so it could replenish the dwindling
national stockpile.

Numerous governors and hospital officials have similarly reported that FEMA
confiscated ventilators and protective equipment sent to their states.
