(CNN) - The highest-ranking officer in the US Marine Corps has ordered Confederate-related paraphernalia to be removed from all Marine installations.

The order from Commandant Gen. David Berger was one of several initiatives he prioritized for "immediate execution" in a memo sent to senior leadership last week, Marine Corps spokesman Capt. Joseph Butterfield told CNN.

Earlier this month, the Military Times released a poll showing 36% of troops who responded said they personally witnessed examples of white nationalism or ideological-driven racism in recent months. That was an increase from the year before, when only 22% reported the same, the Military Times reported.

Poll participants reported witnessing not just racist language and discriminatory attitudes, but swastikas being drawn on service members' cars, tattoos affiliated with white supremacist groups, stickers supporting the Ku Klux Klan and Nazi-style salutes between peers, according to the Military Times.

The white nationalism movement has gotten out of hand in Arizona. On Tuesday I worked at a construction site where all of the workers were either Mexican-American or native. We were pouring and finishing concrete, so after the pads were poured and screeded, we had time to talk in between floating and finishing each pad.

I heard story after story about tense standoffs with belligerent young drunk pricks and demeaning conversations with clients who are retired snowbirds from the Midwest. Trump has really emboldened people who harbor white supremacy views.

The lead contractor, who is Apache, was mistaken for a Mexican at a nearby retirement community. When he gave a potential client a quote for her job, she said, "You're Hispanic, so your quote too high." He said to me, "I told her that's my quote, and I just walked away, because there was no reason to turn that from being a situation involving one stupid person to a situation involving two stupid people."

The hell of it is, these guys have plenty of work demand already, and the retired communities still think they should work for peanuts. These workers are experts, and there are almost no construction crews in the region that are primarily Caucasian.

Another guy told me about a job he did last week installing sidewalks at a high school in an affluent suburb of Tucson called Oro Valley. They had just done the final troweling on the last section of sidewalk toward the end of the day, when a young local cop pulled up and asked to see the ID of each worker. The young idiot was going to try to bust them for being "illegals".

Trump has poisoned the social fabric with all his fear mongering about Mexicans being primarily drug addicts, rapists, and murderers. Racism has gone right out into the open.

Ole Charlie was a bit of a pioneer back in the day, he got his draft notice along with Elvis and the Vettebigot in the early 1960s...this was before Vietnam. Ole Charlie had bigger fish to fry, so he always kept leapfroggin' one town to another, ahead of the draft board, becoming one of the very first draft dodgers....in peacetime!

He didn't become a flag-waving uber-patriot until he got too old and fat to serve.

Agree as well. They should suppress all that Confederate/White Power shit until after they leave active duty. I might have my disagreements with BotanyBoy, but to his credit he didn't actively tout his Confederate/White Power shit until after he left the Army.
