Jerry Rice: "I take my hat off to Donald Trump for what he did"

NFL greats including Jerry Rice, Ronnie Lott, Charles Haley, and Jim Brown were on hand at the White House, expressing their support for DeBartolo, who was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2016.

Still a lot of Rice, Lott, Haley and Brown fans out there.

Pardon a white guy and gain black votes. Will be interesting to see if this kind of Trump 3D chess garners the most black votes this November of any Republican presidential candidate ever.

If that's the case, and with Sanders and Bloomberg überdividing the Democrat general election vote (meaning those who now support Bernie won't vote for Bloomberg in the general election, and vice versa), Trump might very well win far bigger than he did in 2016.

FYP, YWIA.

If he wants to win the black vote, he should parden some blue collar criminals and people of color sentenced to disproportionally long sentances for minor crimes. He wont win ANY votes by only pardoning a bunch of high profile white collar criminals.

Yeah, sure, 49er fans and former black athletes who played for the team are happy, but...

I assume that being fully acquitted of all charges feels so deliciously good to him that he just wants to share that feeling with others, who unlike him, did not have John Roberts, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, pronounce a verdict of not guilty of all charges upon them.

It's good to be The Benevolent King, (metaphorically speaking, for the usual literalist nitwits.)

Nods.

Trump commutes sentence for our x-governor Rod Blagojevich too. He tried to sell Barack Obama's vacant Senate seat.

WHAT?

A Republican President pardons a Democrat Governor?
I find that refreshingly bipartisan...

;) ;)

The guy has big brass balls.
Most "politicians" wait until they are on their way out
to issue their pardons. This one does it heading into an election.

Typically this stuff doesn't bother me but Blago is one seriously corrupt piece of shit and needs to be in prison.

He was charged, tried, sentenced and went to prison.
He may try to pull a Marion Barry, that's not unusual for Democrats
but, since it was national news (unlike the afore mentioned blue-collar,
and btw, is a criminal really blue collar? seems to be a pejorative)
it seems to be to me that he has been thoroughly punished and discredited.
And I'm not fond of Democrats or Governmental corruption.

He was still being punished and should have finished it. He was where he belonged and now he's free to be corrupt again. Yay.

And what further purpose would that have served?
Incarceration costs money - taxpayer money.
It's not like he was involved in a violent crime...

Even leaving aside the question of his guilt or innocence (and he pleaded guilty), it has been quite a while since DeBartolo had anything to do with the Niners. His sister is the owner of record and his nephew basically runs the team.

A commuted sentence in the case of Blagojevich, not a pardon.

I guess he's doing it because everyone knows that there's nothing that coal miners and the denizens of Central Pennsylvania diners care more about than impunity for the obscenely wealthy.
