Is it okay to have marijuana references?

I have a very basic outline for a story that involves marijuana use, specifically about how a "Special" experimental engineered strain of the cannabis plant will affect a group of characters. Is this allowable under site rules, or will it cause the story to be rejected due to the controversial legal status of marijuana? It will be a fairly long story (6-7 lit pages) so I don't want to start on it if it contains prohibited content.

(Not that it matters but, while I personally do NOT smoke weed, for the record, the characters in my upcoming story will.)

Drug use isn’t against site rules. I’ve read a few stories that are centered around cocaine and heroin use. In multiple chapters of my stories Investing Time and Spending Dollars, characters smoke and/or discuss selling weed. I personally haven’t had any backlash from readers about the drug use. Hope this helps!

I've included use of marijuana, cocaine, oxycontin, mescaline, bentos, percocet...

Thanks, I'll sit down and start writing it then. I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask first.

I've seen strong push back against a heroin addiction story that the author thought was erotic. It had sex in it, but it was more bleak and depressing than a turn on. Readers let him know that through comments and low scores. Heroin was the major theme, not the sex, but I'm not quite sure the author realised that. I suspect it was semi-autobiographical. And not very well written...

I didn’t enjoy trainspotting that much either.

What ain't allowed: underage sex; non-fantasy bestiality; sexual snuff; and Laurel dislikes mayhem.

What am allowed: everything else. Whether a category's readers like your tale is another issue.

I applaud you for getting through the story. It seemed to be going downhill, from your description....

I have used drug references in a few of my stories, mainly weed, having done a little of it the (distant) past. There are a few references to cocaine, and they are very much anti and the I make sure the users see the error of their ways and achieve some sort of redemption. I have never had a rejection on that basis, although I have had some comments that the reader was uncomfortable with the references, although they eventually came to terms with the way the characters overcame their addiction.

I suppose in the end, it's horses for courses. All of us writing on this platform are creating situations that not everyone is going to agree with. We all write about sexual activity, or we wouldn't be here. The rest is window dressing and some will like it, some will not.

Marijuana is completely legal in Canada. Progressive people we are. You can even grow small amounts for personal use. So no problems here.

I've also seen stories on the site where drugs are mentioned/used.

It’s a cliche of frustrated, under represented, progressives in California to say this but... we should just join Canada.

Well. if you know what happens in Nov we may well see a few million refugees. And welcome you are. The last Nov fiasco crashed our Gov immigration website.

For years there's been talk about BC, Washington, Oregon and possibly California splitting off and forming their own country. We have a lot in common that is not shared by the east, either in Canada or the US.

And trust me cradle to grave medical care is awesome. Medical bankruptcy is unknown up here. A couple of years ago I had an issue. Spent the afternoon in the hospital. had x-rays, either a CT scan or MRI I can't remember. Obviously Doctors and nurse attention the whole time.

Cost? $7 for parking. My wife paid. It's tax deductible.

I've often been enchanted about a independent California. We're wealthy, could feed ourselves, and have a former diplomat as our Lt. Governor right now. We're significantly underrepresented in both houses (especially the Senate) so that old fashioned "taxation without representation" thing is rearing its head.

We also have serious problems with wealth disparity, energy policy, infrastructure.

I don't mind paying taxes, but I do mind that a significant goes to over-represented, red-staters who sneer at our economic policy, education levels, attitudes about immigrants, "welfare queens" etc... yet never quite feel the irony that *they* are the ones who are economically dependent.

California could address our own problems, if we weren't also carrying their weight, and were instead connected with like-minded nation states.

I sincerely hope that we elect an actual progressive soon, and if not, I hope blue states like California wash our hands of GOP, obstructionist, illiberalism and find some other way to pool resources.

I'm sure Canada would like that too.

I can even get a dentist to merely look at my teeth for that amount of money.

Plus, it's legal in eleven states and the District of Columbia.

It's legal in most states to have sex with someone under the age of eighteen. Not here, though.

(I know this wasn’t a point you were making, your comment simply prompted me to make this observation.)

Most writing about almost anything is legal in the US, excluding certain libels and threats. Laurel, this site's owner and sole editor, sets the rules per her own preferences, not for legalities in any jurisdiction(s). Note that underage sex may be loosely reported ("She was knocked up at fifteen") but not described here. Much mainstream literature won't meet Laurel's criteria. See any of the zillion threads covering this.

In my story Stellar, a stoner is actually smoking weed and its never been flagged, so yeah, do whatever. I dont think it matters as long as you stay within literoticas rules. (no underage)

I've got a beginning of a story set at a marijuana farm. It's got some crazy fiction mixed with some crazier non-fiction. I'm wondering how it will be received.

Part two of my first published story is at an ecstasy party. No troubles from Literotica, but I have had a few admonishing private comments saying the drug use was a turn-off. That part of the story has taken a few one-bomb votes which have later been swept.

I've seen it often enough, especially with marijuana. You may have to consult the guidelines they have here, but I don't see a major issue with it.
