do you know what it is? have you ever eaten it?

here on the german edge of appalachia, we have a product known as goetta. it comes in a roll which is cut into patties and then fried. i know it contains rolled oats and pork, the other ingredients are a mystery. when fried, it smells like someone set the pigsty on fire. the taste, too, is like someone set the pigsty on fire. and yet people around here love it, one of the pizza places has a goetta pizza and there's a yearly outdoor goettafest. all for something that resembles what they dredge out of a grease trap. i've put some pretty unusual things in my mouth over the years but just the smell of this starts me gagging.

is it a something in other parts of the country or just here?

I have never heard of this before. It doesn't sound all that appetizing from what you describe but maybe it's an acquired taste, like one of those "tomato juice in beer" kinda things.

Sounds like our regions version of scrapple. Which is definitely an acquired taste...
