The trouble with IKEA furniture

When you buy cheap shit, don't expect quality construction.

Yes, but it should hold up for a year or two. I had an IKEA night stand which lasted for 6 years.

The new table I assembled is coming apart at the seams. Has their quality simply declined over the years? I hope the store shuts down.:mad:

PSA and reminder:

Then there's this:

There is hardly anything in the world that some man cannot make a little worse and sell a little cheaper, and the people who consider price only are this man's lawful prey.

IKEA furniture is not more than disposable Dorm Room furniture. You get what you pay for.

Assembling IKEA can be a step towards building better stuff for less money.

Or you could shop at thrift stores or do what people did before global corporations wrecked local economies: hire a handyman to build it.

I used to buy at my local auction room until It closed down last year. I have very serviceable furniture that I paid £3.30 (including ten per cent commission) thirty years ago. Last year I bought two high quality armchairs for £5.50 and two solid mahogany bookcases for a daughter for £4.40 the pair.

But my IKEA Wardrobes have lasted 15 years after I assembled them with more wood glue.

I have an IKEA chair that's been serviceable for about 15 years. The fabric is starting to wear out and so I might replace the cover. Otherwise, it's a fine chair.

Nobody has dining rooms anymore and a lot of homes have built-in breakfast bars that people eat at. You can find high quality dining room tables at any thrift store any day of the week.

I have other IKEA furniture that has lasted well (without the wood glue).
Its just this DESK that is going bad.

People say if you want to buy cheap furniture, go to IKEA. Usually they go there when you need to quickly furnish an empty apartment or room. But in fact, if you compare the price of ikea and other furniture stores, then ikea is not much cheaper, but for some reason they always keep silent about the quality of furniture. I will say this, I had a table from Ikea, which I had to dismantle not a tree in a month, because it became completely unusable. Instead, if you want to beautifully, inexpensively and qualitatively furnish furniture in your house or apartment, use the services of onstage-online.com. They will create furniture design in your rooms and find quality furniture that will serve you for many years, if not decades.

I have an Ikea chair at i cant throw out, bought it in 1979.

Their more expensive real wood furniture ( maple, ash, pine) was always very good until 10-15 years ago.

The hardware in their kitchen cabinets doesn't have the mark of the maker anymore, they had to make the quality so low to get the price down that they don't want to have their own name on it anymore.
