From what I see, that is very much the case. I have some friends down there who would likely put me up and get me out on the water. Some very beautiful places along the rivers and coast.

I may be biased but there is endless miles of beautiful pristine coastline, Sydney harbour, some of the rivers are quite at their best these days due to lack of rain but if you stay along the coast you're in for a treat.
