Impeachment Thread

Mitch McConnell’s effort to sabotage Trump impeachment could hit this brick wall

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and his GOP allies have signaled that they might pass a highly partisan set of rules designed to sabotage an impeachment trial of President Donald Trump, which might include everything from time limits on Democrats trying to submit evidence, to a parallel public investigation of former Vice President Joe Biden to make Trump’s Ukraine behavior look legitimate.

But on MSNBC’s “AM Joy,” justice and security analyst Matthew Miller walked host Joy Reid through how difficult such a package of rules could be to pass — and how even a small defection of senators from his caucus could block it.

“How many shenanigans should we expect?” asked Reid. “The Majority Leader is claiming he’s going to do a rules-based discussion with Chuck Schumer but how many shenanigans should Democrats expect from him?”

How much Justice can we expect from Moscow Mitch and the Rethuglican Senate?

Just keep shining the spotlight on what Moscow Mitch does. (The smart thing, of course, would be for him to pretend protection of Trump right up to the removal vote, let the Republican senators loose to vote him gone en masse, as most of them probably really want to do, and then start putting the Republican Party back together again as the election approaches. The U.S. voters being what they are, there still would be time for the Republicans to image themselves as the saviors of the nation and pull recovery off).

Using military funding to secure our international border is well within CIC's authority.

There again, subject to interpretation. Not one sentence in the transcript contains the word dirt. Words matter! Bribery is ambiguous at best and has to be litigated to prove intent, it's not so because you say so, or you want it to be so.

First of all, I was paraphrasing and you know it. True, the word "dirt" does not appear (Zelensky not being a native English speaker, he might not even have known what Trump meant if he had used that word - it is slang, after all.) But even if his intentions weren't clear from what he did say, the fact that he delayed releasing the aid to Ukraine is not even a little bit ambiguous. That certainly made it clear what he was after.

Especially if Trump was hinting that the "dirt" should be invented and
constructed out of thin air, since the truth had already been discovered,
and published in the United States.

What!

Donald in his great and informed wisdomwas wrong
did extort the Ukraine, but was too dumb to know he had done it???

Or:

It was all Rudy's fault!

Or:

??:D

I hate that I had to listen FOR MONTHS to Trump and his minions cry, IT's NOT FAIR, IT's NOT FAIR... not even legal representation at the hearings, blah, blah, blah.

THEN when given the opportunity Trump blows it off. This is the Trump MO. The goal posts are moved every day.

Trump is a whiny little bitch.

The House has given Trump far more due process than the Constitution actually requires. Yet, no matter how accommodating the House Democrats are, Trump still continues to whine and throw childish temper tantrums. Any amount of oversight or scrutiny (no matter how fair) is derided as unfair, a "witch hunt" or "fake".

Did you see the way Trump ran away like a petulant toddler when world leaders laughed at him and made fun of him at the NATO summit?

Yes, Trump is a whiny little bitch.

So, can you quantify how much due process is actually required?

Exactly the amount that the duly elected representatives of We the People decide is required.

Only what the duly elected Democrats decided was required. It isn't as if they represent "We the People."

Yes, Trump is a whiny little bitch.

Yeah sure, he ran away after slapping them around and forcing them to come up with an additional 33 billion in Nato defense spending. He owned that meeting.

You're main problem seems to be a complete lack of knowledge of the Impeachment process, historical precedent, the Constitution, separation of powers, the Founders intent, the Federalist Papers, American law, and American history in general. But, do keep posting your ignorant left wing media talking points. If noting else they serve as an indictment of the present educational state of affairs.

Actually they do. The Democrats hold the majority in the house. In a Democracy, the group with the most have control and "represent the people". So the Democrats are only using the powers given to them by the majority of the electorate.

In the Senate, the Republicans represent "we the people", via the same principle as above.

Now you may not like, or support the Majority Party, however that party, no matter the name or political views, does represent ALL the electorates for the election term.

In a Democracy, each individual member no matter which party, has the right to speak for their own riding electorate, but they alone, cannot pass or enact any laws, without the support of the Majority. However they are only the voice of the individual in their riding, where as, the Majority Party is the voice of ALL the people.

In a democracy that’s the case but not in a constitutional republic.

In a democracy that’s the case but not in a constitutional republic.

You need some education on what a Democracy is: "a system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives."

The format of each is irrelevant.

We are not a democracy, WE ARE A CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC.

FYP
When the president of the US is elected by fewer votes than his opponent then that system is a failure and should be changed .

When the president of the US is elected by fewer votes than his opponent then the electoral college is working just fine.

When the lefty loons don't like an outcome just change the whole system till they win.

The Ukraine scandal isn't just about Trump forcing Ukraine
to 'do him a favor,' it's much larger

December 7, 2019

The facts of the case now moving forward in the impeachment
of Donald J. Trump are clear, documented, and confirmed by
numerous witnesses. Trump solicited interference into U.S.
elections by foreign officials, not just once or twice, but
repeatedly. In particular, he sought announcements meant
to support a pair of conspiracy theories that could be used
to demean and persecute Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden.
These actions were not just meant to provide Trump with
an edge against particular politicians that he saw as threats
to his power, but to exonerate Russia, implicate the DNC
in its own hacking, repudiate all the findings of the Mueller
report, and demolish the credibility of the U.S. intelligence
community.

This is more than a constitutional crisis. It’s an essential crisis of democracy.

Trump isn’t just asking a foreign power to interfere in an American
election against a single candidate. He’s asking that they participate
in a scheme to discredit an entire party and the entire intelligence
community. This is a make or break moment for the United States,
and the fact that Rudy Giuliani is, at this moment, back in Kyiv
openly working with ousted criminal pro-Russian forces
to forward those same conspiracies says it all …
they believe they can break it.
They believe they already have.

In this triumph of propaganda and ignorance, the United States
is far from the only victim. Not even close.

First off, this whole action, from start to finish, is absolutely
destroying Ukraine. The July 25 phone call wasn’t the beginning
of the plot. It certainly wasn’t the end.

Donald Trump, Rudy Giuliani, Paul Manafort, Rick Gates …
are all just part of a stream of Republicans who have been s
couring former Soviet republics for the same reason as
Russian oligarchs — these fledgling nations offer opportunities
for theft, corruption, and personal enrichment that are open
to anyone willing to crush nascent ideas of freedom and
human rights. And they are.

No you are a Democracy, sorry. When you boil down ALL forms of government you get to three: Autocracy, Oligarchy, Democracy.

Read this, it might help you understand your own countries form of democracy.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...-states-of-america-a-republic-or-a-democracy/

"Key difference between a democracy and a CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC lies in the limits placed on government by the law, which has implications for minority rights. Both forms of government tend to use a representational system — i.e., citizens vote to elect politicians to represent their interests and form the government. In a republic, a constitution or charter of rights protects certain inalienable rights that cannot be taken away by the government, even if it has been elected by a majority of voters. In a "pure democracy," the majority is not restrained in this way and can impose its will on the minority."
