The weekly ABC...Themed thread:

Well who needs to be tied up now??
Practice makes perfect, right....

I'm with Renee on this. Piqued my interest.

Moochienanu's hand's together is the romance we all need.

And I'm sure the ladies appreciate your steady hands, TAN.

Okay, no more from me for a while. Back in the one week with children and one week off routine. :)

Handiwork

Since so many folks have offered advise on ropework, I figured I would add in mine.

The Monkey's Fist is a popular, if no longer necessary "knot" that can be frustrating yet satisfying. Start with a LONG chunk of rope. Longer than you think. No, longer than that.

The fist is a ball made of rope wrapped around a core and is used for heaving lines and messengers. I reckon they could have other fun purposes away from the docks depending on size.

So... Take a (long) chunk of rope and place your hand in the middle
Take 4 turns around your hand, then make 4 more turns horizontally through your fingers and around the first turns. Now carefully remove the whole thing from your hand and take 4 *more* turns around the third axis to make a three sided ball.

Now comes the fun part of stuffing a ball or heavy object inside and tightening up all the turns around the core.

When you are finished, you get a really neat Maritime tool or a fun toy

The grasping hand

There is a line in an old Depeche Mode song about 'grabbing hands' that always resonated with me.

Years later, I watched an interesting documentary that was a mashup of stop notion animation and everyday people interviews.

I was struck by how poignant it was to watch a bulldog on a police costume say
"The grabbing hand will never be full. To be full, the hand must give."

The Handcuff Knot

I hope you don’t mind, but you inspired me to share this quick boola boola (for a single column tie) “tutorial” I did at the bar last night.
Thanks for sharing your hands in action. Loved learning a bit of ropework.

It is no secret, I have a true infatuation with hands. So far this has been the best week ever. Thank you to everyone who contributed their sexy hands.
Here’s my real contribution (and His, obviously... :D) for the week
Beautiful, sensual, intimate.

Thank you all for your comments.
For the last thirty-five years I have been a working Engineer. I have earned my living with a calculator and a handbook and a pencil. Usually a mechanical pencil. I love this large, heavy aluminium one I've had for years. (It used to be blue).
Strong, skilled, sexy hands.

Who could possibly refuse?

ugh, monkey fist knots were never my friends.

Once upon a time, I was a Scoutmaster. No, really. I was also an instructor of other adult leaders. One of the things I taught was bushcraft and knot work. Once in a training course, i was asked by the participants to demonstrate the Monkey's fist. It was a three weekend course, so on the second weekend I showed up with pre-cut cord and large marbles to go inside. I also brought written instructions. Within ten minutes the air was blue with language that would have made Lord Baden-Powell blush. I taught them the knot below the next weekend. I never taught the Monkey's Fist to adults again. Just kids.

Thank you for your comments. Yes Tali that pencil has some weight to it. The leads are 3/16" in diameter (about 4mm)

So another knot from me. This is the True Lovers' knot. In teh days of sailing ships, and sailor always had a bit of cord in his pocket. It was common for a sailor to give a woman he was interested in a loosely tied version of this knot.

https://i.imgur.com/ewkjMdw.jpg

Step 1: tie an overhand knot near one end.

https://i.imgur.com/LNTK9Un.jpg

Step 2: run the bitter end through the loop of the knot from the bottom up

https://i.imgur.com/cJDMmcg.jpg

Step 3: form a second overhand knot intertwined with the first.

https://i.imgur.com/TZ4Ced0.jpg

Step 4: dress the knot, but don't tighten it all the way.

https://i.imgur.com/HcXOfSy.jpg

This is how the sailor would present the knot to his lady love. If she was interested, but not sure, she would give it back, untouched. If she was horrified at the thought of marrying a sailor, she would untie the knot and give him back his cord. If she was ready to accept his proposal, she would tighten the knot all the way and give it back like this:

There, a bit of knot-related nerdy stuff.

Back to your perving. That's where I'm going...

I think that there is a fun story there which you are not sharing...
😜

And thanks!

I was in scouts, where I learned the "square" knot. The way I was first taught about the bowline (which rabbits and trees and all manner of malarkey) was absurd.

The Monkeys fist requires lots of planning (swearing I think is a necessary part of the incantation which grants a knot power).

Never did anything with the Lover's Knot, seems like a neat story!

TAN, love the background info on the Lovers Knot. I’ve seen it before but never knew about why it was so named.

I started to make a post to comment on all the gorgeous pics since I was last here, but it was about three miles long  So I will have to just say another great week, I loved catching up and seeing the ropework particularly, talented work there from Tan, Moochie and Chluthu (sp?). Lovely veins from our esteemed leader. Fabulous hands on gorgeous hips from PD and Angelica. Apologies if I missed anyone, they were a great set all round.

Squeaking in just before the deadline again, here's my 'hands' contributions.

For H and me, it was our twenty-fifth wedding anniversary this week, which we celebrated by going to the Caribbean for a totally indulgent fortnight (as previously discussed ;):))

So here are some beach hands. I hope you will forgive the sentimental soppiness :D

You can blame EctoJohn for this one!

I gladly accept the blame for this.
It's a cool effect and I dig the piercing blue eye.
