Have you ever thought about starting up your own porn company?

I sure have. I've also had a side-dream to own a strip club, not the unsavory mob-run type lol, but a decent one that understands how to keep it both glamorous and raw at the same time. But that's another topic :)

I've watched a few documentaries that followed the stories of girls who go into porn. I was surprised that most of them try to get into the mainstream industry, and the vast number of them who fail at it, which is apparently a very high percentage, way above 50% but I cannot remember the actual number. Anyways, I've also noticed several new business models in the industry popping up - mostly very amateur B-rated stuff, but there's more and more popping up now with some half-decent production, shot in HD and where the scenes are still amateur-ish. Some are better than others.

One model they use is to shoot a lot first, then spread them throughout the free sites like pornhub, xhamster, xvideos, homemoviestube, redtube, etc... They make sure to watermark the videos with their websites, where they sell digital copies for $$. Many now affiliate with digital sales sites for easier setup.

Many others affiliate with a site like pornhub and sell their videos directly from there. I see many who get hundreds of thousands, if not millions of views. They all have their personal brands of sex, appealing to different types and kinks.

The mainstream industry mainly pulls girls in through craigslist ads, yep. They sometimes pull from strip clubs too.

What I'm getting at in a very long-winded way is that I think about my specific kinks, which are many, but all related in some way; I think about how most of these successful amateurs are branding kinks and personality in ways that follow that same idea, and it all just clicks. I would love to create that kind of art based on my kinks.

Then I think with $30-$40k I could start up a better catalog (than the mainstream industry) of movies than most of them can. I think with $20k I might even be able to pull it off, maybe ha!

Just wondering if anyone else sometimes thinks about what it would be like to own your own porn company

I hadn't really though about it until recently though a lot of the sites seem to have my fetishes on them.

You'd need a lot of working capital just to keep a stable of lawyers on retainer....

A basic entertainment lawyer is all you need. Get solid contracts for the 'talent' and you can hire a grunt or DIY the searching and removals of illegal copies of your videos. None of the major sites will fight you if you submit a copyright violation to them. Also, understanding copyright laws helps, but I'm a musician, so I've been walking that path for 20+ years, anyone with an 8th grade education can learn it in a few hours. :D

I did this! About 15 years ago I set up a studio with the intention of making foot fetish videos and photos. The plan was to get a few models that I could stick with and sell her socks and panties that she wore for the shoot. The more models you have, the more money you make. What killed my foray into the industry was a lack of willing models. I just couldn't find anyone that was clean, if you catch my drift. Back then, the only reply's I was getting were from people hoping to make a quick buck without any effort on their part. The one model that was interested and worthy rarely had time for shoots. I think we did two shoots together, but none of it was ever posted.

So in my experience, it wasn't finding a platform or an audience that was the issue, it was finding qualified models.

Feet aren't my thing, but I chose it because there is a huge market for feet and panties, plus I thought it would be easier to find willing participants. Taking photos and making videos of women's feet is easy to produce. Now days, there are way more sites than there were back when I tried it where you can sell photos, socks, and underwear. Social media has come a long way since then, too, making it easier now than ever to build a herd of followers. If you have an ounce of creativity and a pretty model with nice feet, there is fairly easy money to be made with very little overhead.

With so much "free" porn out there, I am surprised that there is a market for "pay porn".
The demand is there. People on OnlyFans are bypassing the porn middleman and raking in $$$, so you shouldn’t be too surprised.
