What I want, and I doubt that I'm alone here, is to fix the insane provisions in our immigration laws that single out Latin American immigration for tighter restrictions by far than most. If you reform the laws, then it is highly likely that the vast majority of immigrants will have no trouble complying with them. I note that no Republicans since McCain or Bush have even seriously contemplated reform of the high discriminatory and racist immigration laws currently on the books.

Face it, it was never about "legal vs. illegal" immigration, anyway. It was never about the rule of law. It was never about law enforcement. It was about blaming and scapegoating Latin American immigrants for the practices of Big Business rather than blaming Wall Street, who deserves the blame for their use of slave labor.

They want open borders. So like 2/3's the party...which most of the right wing is fine with a "Just sign in at the front door" immigration policy....under 1 condition.

Can't have open borders or loose immigration and lots of social welfare/handout programs...those two things are incompatible.

If they changed the focus and started jailing the chicken processors and meat packers who hire the illegals in order to keep wages down, that would change the flow.

Or if they passed the $15 an hour and enforced it that would change the flow. Of course it would raise prices but probably would raise the GNP and boost business too. Unlike the tariffs which just fuck over everyone too small to get the pork fat.

If they started going after the companies who hire them? Maybe, no work = no incentive to come.

What many of us want is to make legal immigration easier, removing the sections of the immigration code that make it more difficult to immigrate, thus enabling migrant labor to be more easily regulated for higher wages, better occupational safety, benefits, etc. No slave labor in an economy where the migrant labor isn't driven underground.

You're delusional if you think that immigrants are welfare bums. The vast majority of them pay higher taxes than Jeff Bezos (of course, that's a low bar, since he pays practically nothing in taxes like most billionaires). Legal and illegal immigrants alike work very hard at jobs that most Americans just don't want and they get very little pay for it.

Revise the laws, reform them, and then you'll see them contribute even more to the economy and revenue. In what bizarro world do they get welfare benefits, anyway? Only in your Faux News parallel universe, it seems.
