We are "not sure what happened" exactly between Trump and Ukraine, either.

On the other hand, if it is true that Joe Biden, as Vice President, tried to use US foreign aid to bribe or blackmail Ukraine to the benefit of his son, then that is a major crime. Trump, as Chief Executive, would then have not just the responsibility, but actually the duty, to have this investigated. Given the level of the players involved, it would not only be appropriate, it would be necessary for the current President to get involved.

Don't worry about who supports whom, worry about the facts.

If Trump is just trying to smear Biden by getting Ukraine to perpetuate unsubstantiated allegations, then that is a serious ethical breach.

If Biden did try to use US foreign aid to bribe or blackmail Ukraine to the benefit of his son, then that is the true scandal.

Here's the problem: There are still too many "ifs."

When, and if, the facts come out fully, then we'll know which, if either of them, is in serious trouble.

While I totally agree with your premise, that speculation and accusation should not be used as fact, by either side, I do disagree with and have a question on the bolded part of your post.

I disagree that the president should be directly involved. That's not his job. If it was a violation of our laws the justice department should be doing an investigation.

But, if what has come to light so far is true, why was a foreign goverment asked to investigate a U.S. citizen who broke our laws instead of the justice department? Especially if that request came directly from the president. From the reports so far a promise of some kind was made by the president in exchange for that investigation.

So the question is and will be until all facts are uncovered, why? Why ask a forgeign power to invesitgate one of our citizens when, if the accusations of wrong doing on Biden's part are true, the justice department are the ones who should be doing it? While the evidence so far is pointing in one direction, there are way to many what ifs, maybes and I believes to actually accuse anyone, on either side, of anything.
