the link i provided - simply wiki - covers many more areas. and since it seems states that are actively legislating, yes, those are the ones being quoted. i don't know enough about state v federal laws to comment other than that on this issue, though if a federal law overrides a state law then i am all for seeing a single, encompassing, overriding definition and enactment of a law pertaining to assault-style weapons as defined by states previously.

Me and a friend were getting ready to head out, and practice some PPC. (Police Practical Combat)
We were dressed out....revolvers, and speed loaders, when we heard the commotion.

We unloaded everything we had....that would be 48 rounds, and we don't miss much.
Didn't have enough ammo on us. Two dogs made it back under the fence, puking chickens as they went.
I killed them, with the Mini-14 as they were in a dead run. Grabbed it out of the cab of my pick-up. 2 more rounds.....that would be 50, if you can't count.

i live in the (semi)wild'n'woolly hills of tennessee, and there are coyotes, foxes, opossums, racoons, deer, wild pigs, big farm animals... there's never been a call for massive firepower

It's not that often....but it sure happens.

Had the same thing happen with coyotes about 10 years ago.
The dogs....had one chicken survive.
The coyotes, had two.
Out of about 25....both times.

Things are different in the desert. Get dry years, or drought....and wild dogs band together. Same as coyotes, only not so often as the wild dogs. Wild dogs are worse.
There is a reason why ranchers out here, kill 'em when they see 'em.
