Our bats are more like insectivorous flying mice with big ears. They're migratory.

Yeah, ours (New England area) are about the size of mice. I saw one dangling off my basement ceiling once, and none since.

Sad. I kinda like the little fuckers.

From what I've read, white nose syndrome has decimated the bat population here in the Northeast.

We went home to England in June for a family Christening, and wife-person went rummaging for something in one of the attics, where she found a small roost of Pipistrelle bats; she was outraged/disgusted/freaked-out by 'those little flying rat-fuckers, get them out of my house' etc. etc., but bats are protected in the UK by some quite heavy-handed penalties, especially Pipistrelles, once the most common bat species native to the UK, but now in sharp decline. They're harmless and only tiny, they weigh 5g, about the same as a quarter, I think they're lovely little creatures, and cute as a button, and I had to explain to her in words of one syllable that interfering with roosting bats in the UK means you go directly to jail, do not pass go, do not collect $200.

We ended-up calling in the RSPCA and UK Bat Conservation Trust, who took pictures and set up a wire netting barrier in the attic around the roost and their probable route in and out of said attic. They do smell awful, though, a sharp, ammoniac smell that made them even less appealing to herself. I quite like the idea of bats in the attic, just a little regretful we don't have a belfry, then I could really hold my head up around my more bonkers relatives...

Apparently, our local Belfry was gutted, cleaned, and a few new bells hung (they also did something to the Church Clock). Since then (lost in the mists of antiquity before the first World War) we've not had reports of any bats.
Bit of a shame, that.

But it's time for coffee

There are bats in the roof space of a neighbour's garage. He has made the upper surface of the garage ceiling waterproof and jet washes it when the bats leave for the winter. Every evening at dusk they fly around my garden looking for flying insects.

I am pleased that they are not in my garage. They have cost him hundreds of pounds to keep his garage usable.

More coffee needed as I have got a plot bunny for a Halloween story.

There are no bats in my local belfry, but we once had a neighbor who believed she had geese in her attic.

I brought basil, jalapeno, and Armenian cucumbers in from the garden then watered, weeded, fertilized, and dug out a stand of monkey grass. Later I'll plant radishes, Swiss chard and turnips, but that will be after breakfast and my second cup of coffee.

Well if there were bats in our garage they’d be packed by now. Just been to Home Depot to get more boxes..... almost done packing the books. Lol. One bookcase to go and then it’s on to the kitchen stuff.

I’ll bet you never knew you had half of what you packed, too.

Packed full of homemade chilaquiles and beer.

Coffee in... two hours, perhaps? Thanks.

A mostly quiet day here - lots of reading, but of sorting out and a bit of cooking. Tried to make chocolate cheesecake cups and something went wrong, still edible but not right. Maybe cooked too long.

It was a long hot two days but HM's mother's house is pretty much sorted. She has all that she wants. The grandkids and the rest of the family the same. The rest donated to one charity or another. One more trip to supervise the cleaning and the house will be ready for sale.

I am super worn out so I'll make coffee and head for the shower. It finally reached 100 today for the first time this year.

I couldn't write today. There was no point in trying. I gardened, and then I took an Aleve so my back could relax.

Chilaquiles? I'll have to try that. Maybe soon.

We've had some strange weather; a very gentle shower on my garden, and, less than 2 miles away, a veritable shit-storm of heavy rain.
Bloody Good, eh ?

I think a decent coffee is indicated.

Fresh coffee for a hot and sunny Moanday morning.

HM has a doctors appointment and I have a date with unloading two truck loads of stuff. Where to put it all will become the $64,000 question.

Took yesterday to climb the local mountain (4400'). Lovely views of the mountains in NY and of Lake Champlain. No bats but several little brown birds that have long ago figured out hikers resting on the summit often drop (or toss) food. Legs are sore as $#@& today.

Coffee and painkillers for me please. Signing a lease on an apartment today. Job interviewer is supposedly calling references today. Another step closer....

Best of luck. Know how you feel. I have an interview in about 10 hours for a job interstate. I really want this one...

Since HP pretty much emptied the pot, I'll make fresh coffee for the nooner crowd.

Most everything unloaded except for a few large or heavy items. I have help coming by late this afternoon, so that is covered.

I deny that charge, Sir !
Good Luck with the lifting. . .

Thanks for the coffee

Fresh coffee for the evening crew.

Everything unloaded. Not unpacked and put away but that can wait until later.

Now for a nap or maybe something to eat. Probably a shower first. 100 again today..

I sure hope your dew point goes down with the temperatures that high. We haven't seen 100 since the first half of July, and I'm fine with that.
