We have a gas station near here that has a Krispy Krunchy Chicken place inside. It's Cajun food. I've never tried it. Not my thing. I've been told it's doing well though.
Same gas station also had a Subway Sandwich place. That did not do well so it's now closed. But they left the kitchen behind.
I was approached by someone who wants to use the former Subway space to sell food. Healthy food, although he did mention burgers. Not sure those are healthy or that they would be something a person going to a gas station would want!
There's another gas station near here that has a 5 star taqueria inside. I have not tried that but people say they have the best tacos ever.
This person approached me because he likes my cooking and he knows that I like healthy food. But... Does a person who buys food at a gas station really *want* healthy food?
My experience with gas stations is limited. I buy my gas at Costco 99.9% of the time. Just get the gas and leave.
I have been in gas stations on vacations or during cross country moves. I have bought food then. Used to be very little that was healthy and it was all prepackaged. In more recent years, I have seen cheese, yogurt, salads, fruit, sometimes popcorn. But that's not what I'm talking about.
I like my own cooking so don't even go out to eat unless I have to. So I am not the type to buy food at a local gas station. And pretty much only locals go to this place.
He wants to serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Only thing I could think of was granola. Note that I do not personally think granola is a healthy food but most people do. I envision maybe 2-3 different mixes and assorted add ins. This could be served in a cup, topped with fresh fruit, milk, whatever. The cup would make it portable.
Beyond that? I've got nothing. I want to help him but have no clue. Clearly he should sell things that are different than what the chicken place sells. He is envisioning food delivery and an app that allows customers to order a month of meals at a time. Another thing I would never do. Nor can I envision anyone doing that.
At any rate... Would you eat food from a gas station? If so, what offerings would you want? Thanks!
