Sexting on Snap & Kik, is that a problem? Ok, my cousin is dumb. She was talking about Kik in some group chat and this group is only for people over 18. Then someone came in and asked her age. She said 18. So this person asked in the group "Is anyone looking to exchange photos?". My cousin decided she was downstairs and sent a private message to this person. They talked and my cousin asked for nudes. the person said "You first" and my cousin accepted with nude photos, not face only private body parts. Now the person to whom she sent a message did not respond to anything. Anyway, he wants to be replied, so my questions are: is this a cop or could he be a cop? Although they said they were 18 and there is evidence that they said they were 18, could this still be illegal? And she have to be worried about something? I would like to say that you can relax. She is more concerned because she got no answer at all. Also if that were a problem, how long would it take the police to reach my door? It happened about last night and my cousin is 18 years old. Thank you

Here are the potential problems.

If you send naked pics of yourself, the recipient is free to do whatever they want with them. So if you don't mind them being spread around or even posted on the Internet, go for it. This is why many people choose not to post such things.

Could it be a cop? Sure! Cops are everywhere. But if the person is 18 or over, it's not an issue.

It *can* be an issue if a minor talks about sex. I used to run a chat room. This was back when the Internet was new and the only messaging system was AOL. Cell phones were not common so making a call to another state cost a long distance charge.

With my chat room, I could talk to my friends and relatives who had computers for free. That was the sole initial purpose of my room. Eventually, my friends and I played Trivial pursuit.

I never saw any public cyber sex. I know it went on in private because I was doing it. I did have a couple of minors in there so I did ask that everyone keep their public comments G rated. Other than that, I never gave much thought to having minors in there.

My friend opened a chat room. It still exists although I don't think anyone uses it. It is a sex chat. She put a disclaimer that it was 18 and up. She had moderators and I was one for a while. I'm not now. We immediately kicked out anyone who claimed to be under 18.

At times we had people that seemed to be cops because their stories always sounded fishy. An unknown person would come in, claiming to be the mother of an underage girl. She would give the story of finding a link to the chat room and wanting to know why her daughter was in there. The funny thing was, we had less than a dozen regular chatters. All were older. We had all known each other for years. The "mother" could never tell us the "daughter's" name. We would just boot them out.

We did have one weird incident with some Swedish people. I suspect they might have been playing games with us. Supposedly there was a married couple and an 18 year old female. Of course we had no way of checking ID.

One night, the couple announced that it was the girl's 18th birthday. They said they had covered for her because had I known, I would have kicked her out. Then all three of them disappeared. AFAIK, none of them ever mentioned sex at all. It was just kind of weird. We just figured that it was people messing with us. It could well have been the same person pretending to be all three.

It means that this problem could be serious if my cousin was under 18.. Thank GOD she's 18+
