When you re-submit your story, put a brief explanation in the Note to Admin box along the lines that although there were children mentioned in the story, they were not involved in sexual activity in any way. I've had two stories incorrectly rejected, but they were accepted once I resubmitted with a note.

I understand your frustration, but HectorBidon's advice above is the right way to go about this. The "mods" here have nothing to do with your rejection.

On other sites, I ran into the issue of having words like "childhood home" or "college kids" censored.

I understood the reason why that happened, so I just used different words/phrases like "house I grew up in" and "college students".

She can't read everything. She has to have software that does a lot of these things automatically.

And she has seen so many stories over the years, I'm sure that with a quick skim she can get a general feel for the kind of story. I guess that if she gets the feeling it's going in the wrong direction she just rejects it to be safe. Also, some of the details will get lost when skimming, and taken out of context certain phrases or bits of dialogue might sound different than intended or give her the wrong impression.

How long has it been?

If you didn't have an explanatory note with your submission, it might actually be quicker to resubmit your story with the note added. That way, it's guaranteed to be seen, with the story in question right there. If your story shows as "Pending" though, it's been approved and is waiting for publication.

If you PM - which you do by going into Private Messages top right of the Forums' front page and addressing it to Laurel - there is less of a guarantee for a response, as she will have to go looking for the story.

It's better to get any clarifications into her normal processing queue.

But before you can PM Laurel, you have to go to your User CP (link at the top left of the page) and enable private messaging. It is off by default.

Correct. Only the site owner/admin scans and approves or rejects story submissions.

Laurel doesn't do holidays. She told me once that she'd been away from the site for something like one day in twenty years.

My story got published -- near the bottom of nearly twenty Incest/Taboo stories published today. Thus my dreams of multiple-comment and large-number-of-favourite fame seem to be tarnished

Would it be better next time to publish at a certain time of day to ensure that I appear near the top? Or is it just up to chance?

(Btw the "underage sexuality" had nothing to do with child molestation, so don't worry. I had included a paragraph about my character's erotic lactation fetish and its origins "in early high school." :/ Lesson learned!)

Submission time has nothing to do with it, all stories that are scheduled to go live on a given day will do so at midnight in the server's timezone, I believe. Not quite sure what determines the order on the new story page, but I'd assume it's indeed up to chance, depending on the order Laurel pushes them onto the list to be published. Don't think there's anything you can do about that.

The one thing I know of that you can do in the future, is enter your story in a contest. The contest stories always appear at the top of the category.

In a busy category like incest, this can really suck, because depending on when your story is published it may disappear from the new story category hub almost instantly, which will dramatically hurt its exposure to readers. This has happened to me and it hurt the number of views I got compared to stories that remained on the new story list for a few days.

Well, that stinks.

Someone suggested entering a contest, but how do I do that?
I do see the "Contest Winners" and "Submit Your Story" links, and I just came across some info (now lost, butterfingers that I am) about submitting for a monthly contest. But "Submit Your Story" merely links to a form for writing an ordinary story, and the information was dated from April and did not appear to include a submission link.
