The appeal of heels...or not!

I follow some dancers/choreographers on Youtube and I just got a notification of a new video. I don't want to give her name publicly because I'm going to badmouth her a bit. I love her to pieces and she's hot as hell! Except for when she puts on heels.

This woman is best known for hip hop and she normally dances in bare feet or some kind of athletic shoes. Sometimes combat type boots. But in heels? She is gawky and awkward and I find her hard to watch.

So I cringed when I saw the opening of the video. She and two other girls had on black, spike heeled shooties!

Now normally my eyes would be drawn to her but not this time. I couldn't bear to see her in those heels! But... Thankfully she must have realized her shortcomings there and didn't do too much in terms of walking around, turns, etc. And when she did do such things, they cut her off at the knees. Mostly she did floor work like splits and writhing around on the floor and the other two danced.

Next up was a guy. I've seen him before. Can't tell if he's Latino or Middle Eastern but does not dance like a dude at all! Super sexy but I'm sure not of my sexual proclivities. He was totally rocking those shooties though! Sad to me that a guy would do better in the heels than the choreographer.

Rest of the video was all females. One had sandals but all spike heels.

I have seen videos from another studio where everyone wears heels, including the guys. I don't get that at all. They're not in drag at all. Usually they have on the typical unisex dance stuff. Sweats, yoga pants, leggings, T or tank top.

Personally, I don't do well in heels and never have. I did have a some shoes with heels when I was younger that I was able to dance in. I did check myself in the mirror. I don't want to look clumsy.

Saw a woman the other day trying to enter a restaurant. She had on high, wedge heeled flip flop sandals. They were sparkly and pretty but she was falling all over in the things and about every three steps she had had to stop to adjust them.

These days I pretty much only wear ballet shoes to dance in but I don't have a sprung floor so when I'm doing hip hop stuff and landing hard on my feet, my heels pay for the lack of cushioning. I am dancing on carpet though at home so sneakers don't work well as they stick to the carpet and I can't do graceful turns in them.

So bottom line, I say... If you can't rock heels, don't wear them. Unless you're just going to lounge around in them because that can be sexy.

Your thoughts?

From a male perspective I love them in the right context (the video above doesn't seem to be the right one!) They have to enhance elegance so it depends on the situation... Beauty and femininity sometimes comes from 'stillness;' depends on the woman I suppose.

From my CD perspective I don't feel like a girl until I put on heels! Wig, makeup, lingerie, stockings, makeup, false boobs even. I have short legs and I only feel like a woman when the heels reshape my body into that female posture. xPx

For me it is outward display of confidence that has my attention, and that is not dependent on footwear.

In the situation you described, though Jada59, the dancer apparently is less confident in their movement with heels on, so I would probably find her performance in other footwear more interesting.

I agree in that owning a style is very different than dressing up in a style.

Very interesting, thanks!

Yes, I agree with you there.

At certain times in my life, I had some sort of signature style. For a few years, I always wore a flower in my hair. It was usually a fresh flower, but I had a few silk ones for backup.

Then I went through a period of time where I always matched my socks to my top. When I wore pants of course but... I sometimes wore anklets with a dress. I had a two piece dress that was flowy white gauze with little pink and blue ribbon roses on it. I used to wear frilly white anklets with that. I can't remember what shoes I wore with it though. I had a black and white sort of tweed skirt that was very full. I wore either a black or white top/blouse (I had several) with it and either black, leather Keds or some old fashioned looking, short, black, lace up boots with it. I also wore frilly anklets with those, but the ones I wore with the boots came up a little higher and had fake pearls on them.

These days, you never know what I might have on but I almost always wear my rose quartz bracelet

Hey Jada59,

My wife of forty-seven years has never worn heels, even as a teen and won't. I have never found heels on women attractive. As far as we are concerned high heels are dangerous and can cause lower back issues, damaged feet, knees and hips. But, each to their own.

Hey Jada59,

My wife of forty-seven years has never worn heels, even as a teen and won't. I have never found heels on women attractive. As far as we are concerned high heels are dangerous and can cause lower back issues, damaged feet, knees and hips. But, each to their own.

I remember my first pair. I was going into the 7th grade and my mom insisted that I wear heels. I didn't want them as I had to walk about 2 miles each way to and from school. She also insisted that I wear dresses. This was during the 70's.

When I got to school, almost all of the girls were wearing jeans and few were wearing heels. Some did wear platform shoes/sandals and I eventually got some of those too but I had one pair of clogs that always caused me to sprain my ankle.

I clomped around in those stupid heels for two weeks, dragging my feet all the way home, trying to wear them out. I did wear them out rather quickly so my mom allowed me to choose more sensible shoes.

I did lose though when it came to winter boots. My mom somehow found some horrible, black rubber boots with heels on them and no amount of dragging my feet would wear those puppies out. I suspect they were more of a fetish item. I suffered through those things day after day with sweaty feet. Ack! I think I finally just lost them or something. Heh!

Entertainers today don't dance. They jump and flop around like gymnastic fish out of water.

The 'Tube sucks donkey slime and should be avoided by responsible adults.

An adult female who doesn't ever wear heels is not a lady.

Hey Jada59. Good for you. Luckily, my wife's mother hated them too.

Hey jaFO. Luckily for me, my wife doesn't meet today's (or yesterday's) definition of a lady. If she had, we would've never met. :)

I absolutely love heels and unless really not practical/allowed (work), all my shoes have some degree of a heel on them, ranging from just a little raise to "did you grow a few inches over night?". I dont think a woman needs to wear heels in order to be feminine, that is just utter ... But the right shoes definitely can make someones look!

When I have new shoes, I am always a bit wobbly the first day, whether they are high heeled or not. But even if I am not totally smooth... I dont care and neither should others. If they have time and energy to waste on being bothered by my shoes and the way I walk on them, I envy them for apparently having so much time to spare and energy to waste.

If your footwear effects your professional image (such as in the dance video described), I indeed think it would be wise to reflect on your choices.

But in the end, fashion and comfort are all individual decisions ans who are we to then judge them? If you cant rock heels, but still enjoy wearing them, let other people mind their own business and just enjoy wearing them. Without practice you will never rock them, so I think people just need to be less judgemental and leave others to their choices.

There are a few who can dance. Most don't though.

I adore women in heels....they go with all outfits...make woman’s legs look so good and love the sounds on the floor as they walk...and they go with all activities...

Your thoughts?
1) Personally it really bothers me that it seems that women can only wear heels in movies, especially action movies. I mean... What the fuck? Why would anyone, knowing that they have to run and kick, wear such uncomfortable shoes? I don't know if it is the absurdity of it or the banalization of the concept of femininity that bothers me most.

2) As a heterosexual man, I don't see much of the appeal. I remember telling my ex, who could not really walk comfortably in them, to not just wear them, if she had to suffer through the night and bring other shoes too, because there are sexy shoes with normal heels. For example, I do find sexy a woman in combat boots.

3) This said, since my fetish is to violate rules, also those "established" by me, in my stories submissive women do find themselves in really high heels, but it is more about the subtle torture of wearing them and the fact that it is gratuitous than anything.

So... Here are my hypocritical thoughts! :)

I love heels. I'm wearing 4" heels right now with hose, garter belt, thong panties and bra all in red. My wife, son, and daughter-in-law are all dressed in smilar outfits in different colors. Wife in blue, son in pink, and daughter-in-law in black.

I would love to see that. Your whole family in matching lingerie and nothing else. We are friends with two couples with husbands are CD's, and we love seeing, and fucking them while they are in lingerie. I have never dressed up that way myself although I do wear panties when I have to wear clothes at all.

As a whole, I do think women look sexier in heels, including myself. My younger years, I lived in moderate heeled boots. I am 5'7" so I liked a moderate heel has it made me a typical male height. Now, I personally describe heels as shoes forged in the depths of hell. I hate them. They hurt. I wear them only if trying to look sexy and there will be very minimal walking.

As for a hip hop dancer, why put them in heels. I wouldn't want to watch that if I was wanting to watch hip hop. The majority of hip hop styles seem very powerful, women already have a bit of a disadvantage due to the smaller frame and lower muscle mass. Making them fundamentally weaker by throwing off their body alignment seems counter productive. Almost turning it into like some new wave trendy pop sexy socialite bastardization, not what I think of as hip hop. It brings visions of the next generation's Paris Hilton, carrying a purse dog, in a shimmery mini dress, trying to krump in heels. Ok, that might just be hilarious.

Another big factor on my heels opinion is my grandmothers' feet. They worked, and heels were an expected part of the attire. Their feet were mangled by the time they weren't much older than me. Extreme bunions, hammer toes, claw toes. Oh, and the bad knees from the destroyed cartilage. The damage from 30 years of daily pumps was unreal. The health effects answer for me.

I tend to swing back and forth between the practical, feminist side that says “you don’t need to wear those!”
And the cartoon wolf I become when I see a woman in heels.

Heels are one of my biggest turn ons. What they do to a woman’s leg is incredible. That said I wouldn’t turn down a woman without them.

Like everything I think there’s a time and a place. I like some heeled shoes - if I’m
wearing a fitted dress then a hint of cleavage and a high heel adds a certain elegant sexiness that works in the evening. I dont need to walk around being “ sexy” the whole time though so I have a whole range of shoes from trainers, Dr Marten lace up shoes through to Vivienne Westwood bondage boots. Nothing says “ try hard” to me though than a woman teetering around in shoes that are too high and clothes that are too tight. I have to say though that men love that stuff.

I'm a man and I think an attractive woman wearing stiletto heels is extremely sexy. I understand that they aren't particularly comfortable to wear for any length of time and that they can cause foot and leg deformities. It impresses me to watch women walking effortlessly wearing them, but I was amazed once, while stopped at a red light, to see a woman actually running across the intersection at high speed, taking long strides while wearing spike, stiletto heel shoes!!
