The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 04: Come On In

No heaters needed here. It's 75 degrees at 6am and headed toward 90. All quite notmal for this time of year.

Fresh coffee for the morning crowd and there are a few pastries on the counter. First come first serve as they say. No pushing and shoving please.

No writing done so far today. I have a conference call with my editor coming up around eight or so. It is the regular scheduled quarterly call. Since I'm two chapters away from finishing my latest novel, all should be well. I think I have a new novel out of the last ten coming out later in the month and another just before Christmas.

Now. Do I just relax and wait for the call or do I nap until it wakes me up? Maybe I'll do both. :)

There was 60% rain in the forecast today but I saw none.

Fresh coffee for the evening crowd. I hope it's larger than just me and HP.

The phone call went well this morning. She was an hour late and the only one on the line. So, I guess I can't call it a conference call. I got to sleep an extra hour so it was all good. The one high point was the fact that my sales are up slightly. The one funny point was the advertising department, all three of them, want me to do some book signings in my number three pen name, which is supposed to be a fifty something white female.

They were quite taken aback when my editor reminded them of who I actually was. The eleven to fourteen year old set might have got a kick out of me but I don't think the parents would have done the same. Truth in advertising and all that.

I spent the rest of the day playing with sawdust in the shop.

We had a 30% chance and I saw a little. It had a nice cooling effect. We had all of 0.07" of rain in June, so even a little is good.

I picked up a Pixie story I'd left for dead and reread the other Pixie stories (short, formulaic strokers with a diminutive cougar as MC) to get an idea of what went wrong. Maybe I can fix it, but I wonder if I should bother. My four published Pixie stories had a very erratic reception.

I started writing those stories to get out of a slump, and it worked. They have a reason to be. Besides, there's four more stories in my head, so why not?

The readership for Pixie Cougars might be a niche crowd. Who knows, you might be expanding the fan base for such. And yes, I can see the fun in writing something like that. I've done the same with a couple of female body builder stories. I think I even posted one for the winter contest. Nowhere near a winner butt...

The first Pixie story I published was the second I wrote. It went into the Holiday contest and failed miserably.

In this case, Pixie is the nickname of a former blond-cheerleader-now-trophy-widow who has a taste for eager young men -- not an actual pixie -- so it just belongs in EC. The stories were all a blast to write until this last one. While rereading the other stories I decided that I just need to get my head between Pixie's legs and write.

Now the story is mostly done, but I don't have plans to publish it.

I took Pixie to mean pint sized or a name.

'Get my head between Pixie's legs.' And you've been calling my pot black. Hello kettle. :D

Why not publish it? You had fun writing it, so readers might have fun reading it. Anyway, a story not published is an angel without wings. ;)

I have three more Pixie stories planned after this one: one for a Halloween party, one for her 40th birthday (which is Valentines Day), and one for the spring when she might actually take a more mature lover and end the series. I'm not sure about that. They're all just two Lit pages each. Maybe I'll publish them when they're all done -- probably a week or so apart.

Until then, they're stlll fun to write, and they serve their original purpose.

Morning everyone (well it's morning over here, anyway).

Question: does one get shot for having tea around here? Nothing against coffee, but prefer to have my breakfast with tea instead. Although that's the only time I drink it, coffee wins out just about any other time.

.
Anyway, a story not published is an angel without wings. ;)

The Tower of London has a number of Ravens.
In order that nobody tries to find out if the 'legend' is correct, they have their wings clipped.
The legend is that the place will fall if the Ravens leave the Tower.

I have a directory full of unfinished, unpublished stories; they're just like the Ravens of the Tower.

But we got bright sunshine and a cool breeze; time for a coffee.

Definitely not morning here. But I'll bring my own coffee with a hint of caramel, with me. It seems time I drop in for a moment, before, no doubt I drop out again when life takes me back.

Hoping all Lit folks are well enough on this colder night in Aus.

Tea is fine around here. I usual keep a kettle on unless I forget.

I'll make fresh coffee since HP showed up early.

Good not morning to you Ravishing. Bring your own coffee if you need to. Welcome back and don't stay away as long next time. We like good company.

Since it is around 73 degrees a little after 3am, it is nowhere near cold here. The high will be close to 90. No rain showing this morning, so maybe I can get the yard mowed.

Frigging plot bunnies!

I went to take a nap and then along came this huge plot bunny and all I could think about was the story. I may have gotten a couple hours sleep. Now there is 1500+ words down on paper and a lot more still in my head. Not much plot involved but....

Thanks to the powers that be for my insulated French Press.

To quote my fave Nobel Laureate

"I got a head full of ideas
That are drivin' me insane
It's a shame the way she makes me scrub the floor."

N+1 killer intros, -n+1 completions; back to the mop.

A refill on my coffee is definitely needed. 2500 words in on the plot bunny.

Ah, a new visitor. Welcome to the coffee shop. I've never seen a french press that would fill my twenty oz mug.

ETA: It is now 3200+ words and finished. After a few days I'll do an edit and see if it needs anymore added. If I leave it the way it is, the yells for a sequel will be deafening. It will make a nice one page entry for the Summer Lovin contest.

French Press

They can be found here

Ours holds 6 regular cups should be able to handle your big mug

Since I drink about four of my mugs a day, that press would get a workout. Anyway, I like my coffee on the mild side. That is hard to do with a french press.

Thanks for the link though. Information is always useful around here.

Uh, the link doesn't go anywhere.

That may depend upon what you put in it.
For example, my local shop has a variety of 'strengths', which, (presumably) will suit all tastes.
And yes, I#'d love another cup

I think the joke got lost in the URL encoding. When your reverse that it becomes:

http://i got a head full of ideas that are drivin' me insane it's a shame the way she makes me scrub the floor/

Yeah, I noticed that. Definitely a screw up in the copy and paste segment of the operation.

Probably the forum encoding urls for you, I noticed it when using the "preview post" button too a few times. It probably was readable before they hit Submit.

Hot and humid again. Barely a hint of a breeze. It was 82 inside the apartment when I went to bed last night.
