How can I get feedback? Pre and post submitting?

I’ve started writing some stories and love it when readers take the time to post comments. Is it possible to have someone read my drafts and provide input and feedback before I submit a story? I write my stories on literotica, not as an attachment. All feedback, good and bad is welcome.

I assume that when you say you write all your stories on Lit, you mean that you use the draft option on the submissions screen. In answer to your questions; As far as the before published phase, the only way I know of is to cultivate a relationship or two on the Forums, and share beta-reading help with them. Since you're doing your drafts on Lit, you'll need to copy the draft into an acceptable format that you can share, etc. (You might try a post on the Editors Forum for beta-reader help—unless you are wanting an editor, then ask for an editor.) It's going to be hit and miss on the responses either way.

After the story is published, you can ask for comments/critique on the Story Feedback Forum—give a short synopsis, category and a link to the story in your post...and wait for any feedback. (You can also put a note in the story itself mentioning that comments and feedback are appreciated, etc.) As a general statement; Comments are more rare from readers than you'd like.

I've cultivated regular e-mail correspondence with a few folks who sent me feedback early on. I do all of my writing on MS Word, so I can share those stories in progress and get feedback throughout the process before publishing the final version on the site. It is also extremely helpful for getting additional editing on my stories--even after carefully reviewing my own work three or more times, there are things I just miss that other sets of eyeballs will catch for me.

Pre - try the Editor's Forum.

Post - wait for the comments & feedback to roll in...and wait...and wait...or post a request in the Story Feedback forum.

How to get feedback? I've found admitting to giving a story 1 star here will get your stalked. :p

Other than that, perhaps establishing a quid pro quo with a few writers you like. So, maybe read more here.

Yeah as already mentioned, try the Story Feedback if you want some feedback from other writers on here after it's posted, and you can use the Editor's Forum before posting. It's mostly used for actual editing (grammar and spelling and such), but you can just mention you're only looking for story feedback. As an editor I actually tend to do both unless the writer tells me specifically to ignore one or the other.

If you wrote /drafted the story on a word processor, you could ask for a Beta reader or two.

Step One: Buy nomex (fire retardant) suit, and sunglasses.
Step Two: Post in Loving Wives.

As mentioned, you can start with a beta reader. Sorry, I'm not volunteering.

Then you can post to Loving Wives and be assured of tons of feedback, mostly hostile and irrelevant. You want relevant feedback? Post something pandering to Incest-Taboo or Group Sex -- they're pretty kindly.

You can assume the most popular stories in each category are those that pander most successfully. If you write for brownie points (views, votes, faves, follows, comments) then pander. If you write for your own satisfaction, don't sweat the numbers.

I too have never found a use for the one star. Just trying hard enough to get something published is worth more than that:confused:

Agreed. I don't finish most of what I start. If it says something that isn't me, I move on. I would never dream of offering an opinion as to the quality of a story about something i have no interest in. It might be a technically perfect offering.

I don't rate most of what I finish. If I think something is superb I'll give it a 5. If it's good, but not great and the score is below 4, I'll give it a 4. I've never given a 3 or lower.

I've written elsewhere, a place that had a logarithm that artificially adjusted scores to reflect a catagory median of 6/10. It was interesting having a raw score over 7 and an adjusted score of 5.25...
