Personally, I wouldn't vote for him even if I lived in AL. Even so, I believe he has an excellent chance of winning the election. He got McCarthyed the last time he ran, and the voters might decide to make up for it.

Roy Moore won't win the Alabama G.O.P. primary.

Former Auburn University head football coach Tommy Tuberville is EASILY the most popular Republican in the state of Alabama, and he has already declared his intention to seek the G.O.P.'s Alabama U.S. Senate nomination for 2020.

In November of 2020, it will be Tuberville vs. Doug Jones, and Tommy will blow him away! Jones destroyed his (very small) hope of ever being re-elected when he voted against Judge Kavanaugh's Supreme Court confirmation last summer. Other Democrats doing that in conservative states included Bill Nelson in Florida, Claire McCaskill in Missouri, and Heidi Heitkamp in North Dakota. They ALL lost their re-election bids, and Alabama is more conservative than ANY of those states!

Really? You think this time around they won't object to years of chasing jailbait? Why not?

And I wouldn't be so sure about Tuberville beating him in the primary. Too many Republicans - especially in places like Alabama - have the same persecution complex you're alluding to here, and they love Moore for sticking it to the man on the Ten Commandments.

It wasn't jailbait. The girls he was chasing were of the age of consent in AL

Wrong. At least one of the complainants was 14 at the time (when Moore was 32). The others were largely allegations of assault where age is not an issue at all.

Being 16 or more doesn't make an assault by a middle aged man ok!

How do you get so much wrong Box ? It's so easy to check facts. :D

Even those who were legal were mostly much younger and, as colddiesel says, age wasn't the only issue. And this is a guy who would deny equal rights to GLBT Americans on the grounds of questioning their morality!

Heck, Boxlicker, your screen name refers to a sex act that people of Moore's stripe have been known to claim is an abomination according to the Bible. Think about that!

The youngest girl you mentioned made allegations, but nothing was ever proven, and there is no evidence that anything ever happened. When I said Moore was McCarthied, that was what I meant - accusation with no proof.

You mentioned "the others." How many "others" were there, keeping in mind the age of consent in AL?

32 years old is not middle-aged.

As I said in the OP, even if I lived in Alabama, I wouldn't vote for Moore, for a variety of reasons.

If that's what you meant, that's what you should have said. Invoking McCarthy implied much worse than that, and surely you know it. (Honestly, I'm a bit surprised you're not a fan of Joe McCarthy. But that's beside the point.)

And 32 is not middle aged, but it's too old to be chasing after teenage girls.

Life expectancy in Alabama is only 78, so middle-aged would be 39.

McCarthy died when I was too young to vote. I was never a fan of his, but I probably would have voted for him anyhow. The alternative would probably have been William Proxmire, who was just another politician.
