I had a rare moment last night in which the Men's bathroom was closed and under some construction.. The ONLY choice was to go into the plainly marked Women's bathroom.. And YES there were women in it!! They gave me a funny look..
But I must say... I do NOT see the big deal!! I mean the women that were getting business done were all behind a shut, and I am sure, locked door.. Couldn't see anything if you tried!! JEESH
Its not like the women stand naked in front of the mirror putting on make up or some shit!!
I just didn't see the BIG deal behind such TABOO of men in the women's room..
I have had women in the Men's room many times and NO one complained!!

The cubes were configured so the worker was facing away from the entrance. As I was leaving one of them asked me if they could reconfigure their cube - I said sure. (I've always believed workers perform best if they're comfortable.)
I can in the next day and every single person except me had reconfigured their cubes so you couldn't see their computer screens.

However, It is painfully obvious how different a playbook men play by given you don't get it. It has very little to do with modesty.

As you walk in, you have now blocked the only exit and have possibly isolated a lone woman.

Don't wear clothing that can easily be removed, don't wear shoes you can't run in, don't wear clothing that draws attention to yourself, don't leave your drink unattended, don't drink a drink that you didn't watch being opened or poured, don't walk in poorly lit areas, keep your keys in your dominant hand in parking garages, and the biggest, most important, don't let yourself get stuck alone, isolated, with no retreat. 33% of sexual assaults in America happen in public places. (55% in her own home and 12% in someone else's home). Of the 33%, the most popular places are parking structures, public transportation related, or public restrooms. places where alone and isolated is easier to achieve. And those door locks you speak of, half of the time they are actually broken, and women are bending over trying to hold it shut, and if they aren't broken, a young child can break them. They are weak as shit and are only a modesty guard against those who respect it. (Side note, transsexual has nothing to do with the issue, and I do believe they should use the restroom they identify with. A dude with a dick and beard should probably not be in the women's room because he was born a woman and a person with tits and makeup should probably not be stuck isolated in men's bathrooms)
Now in all fairness, most of those 33% aren't strangers, but are acquaintances. The guy who follows you after talking to you at the bar. The vendor at the lunch taco stand. etc, but complete stranger attacks in public do happen. Sure, the seriousness of following the rules dwindles as you age, but they are still valid and women lived following the rules for a long time. And that is just a handful of the rules.
Women frequently have to make snap judgments because of even well meaning men don't understand the rules. That guy who got you a beer but walked over with it opened, that guy who walks up in a parking garage because he thinks he knows you. This is why sometimes decent men get maced in an empty parking garage and bitch about the crazy chick. That is why we have a boy and a girl in Alaska who probably fucked up their future by getting expelled their senior year because as he masterminded his stupid ass prank, he didn't understand the rules.
It isn't modesty that is the biggest concern, it is isolation, and that is why women will look around for each other, look to make sure the exit gets cleared fast if a man walks into the restroom. This is also why many large public spaces have started building restrooms with the 2 exit philosophy, it isn't for ease of use. hell in a busy time you end up with 2 lines waiting for one row of toilets. It is because it corrects the isolation problem, thus the lawsuit problem.

Well, I grew up in a rough place. Other chicks will explain the rules when they see a violation if your family failed to. Of course, sometimes you break some of the rules, but if you break too many, that is when things go downhill. So like if you are going to dress provocatively, you stay with the pack. If you are out with 2 or 3 girls, if one has to pee, you all get up with your drinks and go. It isn't that we are lushes and can't go 4 minutes without our drinks, it isn't that we babble so much we can't spend 4 minutes apart, it is just you can't let one pee alone, you can't leave one at the bar alone, and you can't leave your drink alone.
Though the twisted truth is, when I hear something like the Brock Turner case, my first initial thought was, wait, she went to drink at a frat party, dressed in a dress, where the fuck is her entourage, why did she separate, why did they let her separate, why weren't they watching each other, who was her assigned buddy from the entourage? Fuck, frat party is like body suit with the tricky hooks, tight jeans with the twine, boots, belt territory. If you are going to violate the wardrobe rule, why the fuck violate the buddy rule, and then top it off with the isolation violation. Da fuck. How? How was that chick was able to make the series of bad choices that made her such an easy target. Did no one explain this to her? her sister? Hell, we have the internet, just google rules for going to a frat party, and this is covered.
Now obviously that is insane, I should probably be asking how he could, but that just isn't surprising to me. Maybe I come from a rougher place and a rougher time, but this would all have been explained, even if by a strange female seeing it. Young women have a different rule book, it is just a fact, use it.
