In discussing kinds of rapes he has encountered
as a law enforcement official, state Rep. Barry Hovis
spoke of the vast majority of rape being date rape
and "consensual rape."

A lot of "whats" rang around the chamber.

Just spoke with Rep. Hovis.
He said he misspoke and meant to say
LEOs finding out whether what occurred
was “consensual or rape.”

He didn’t realize the error until Proudie spoke.
He apologized and said multiple times,
“There is no such thing as consensual rape.”

when it’s 5th in gun violence,
restricts birth control access,
and blocks Sex Ed from public schools.

It sounds more like pro-forced birth
and the subjugation of women
than anything to do with the sanctity of life.

Todd Akin, a Missouri congressman, said that
“legitimate rape” rarely causes pregnancy.

"First of all, from what I understand from doctors, (pregnancy from rape) is really rare,”

- Akin told KTVI-TV in a clip posted to YouTube by the Democratic super PAC American Bridge.

“If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.

-(yes, a man said that a rape does not cause pregnancy,
because female bodies have a magical defense against
pregnancy, when a "legitimate rape" is committed.)

(That said, it can be expected that Republicans
have the understanding that dirty sluts and whores
get pregnant after a rape, because the rape was illegitmate.
(not a "real" rape) Hmmm, victim blaming!)

Akin issued a statement Sunday afternoon saying he misspoke.

"In reviewing my off-the-cuff remarks, it's clear that I misspoke
in this interview and it does not reflect the deep empathy
I hold for the thousands of women who are raped and
abused every year," he said. "I recognize that abortion,
and particularly in the case of rape, is a very emotionally
charged issue. But I believe deeply in the protection of all life
and I do not believe that harming another innocent victim
is the right course of action."

Even after she launched her silly "sex strike" to oppose the state of Georgia's newly-passed abortion restrictions, Hollywood actress Aylssa Milano made a statement on Cuomo Prime Time that clearly reflects how modern America feels about abortion:

"I don’t think there’s a human on the planet that is not pro-life. Nobody wants to get an abortion. Nobody. We are all pro-life."

Abortion only became legal nationwide because of a 1973 U.S. Supreme Court decision, meaning that it can just as easily be OVERTURNED by another U.S. Supreme Court decision! For example: in 1896, Plessy vs. Ferguson made racial segregation ("Separate but Equal") legal in the American south, which was then overturned by Brown vs. the Board of Education 58-years later!

For decades, establishment Republicans have done a bang-up job of always stopping just short of overturning Roe because they knew all hell would break loose against them if that happened. But now the monster they created is out of control.

Newly-elected presidents very often do poorly with their first mid-term elections. In 1994, Bill Clinton's Democratic Party lost 54-House & 8-Senate seats. In 2010, Barack Obama's party lost 63-House & 6-Senate seats. And yes, in 2018, Donald Trump's Republicans lost 40-House seats. But in the U.S. Senate, that body of the legislative branch that confirms all U.S. Supreme Court nominees, Trump's party GAINED two seats! Now WHY was that? What message might the voters have been sending in an election where the G.O.P. lost control of the House while simultaneously INCREASING its power in the Senate?

It seems to me that last summer's Brett Kavanaugh confirmation hearings HURT the Democrats! Dem-senators in Florida, Missouri, & North Dakota, who all voted "NO" on Kavanaugh, were turned-out by the voters! And when Ruth Bader-Ginsburg leaves our nation's highest court (it's going to happen), President Trump's replacement pick will have a much EASIER time getting confirmed by the U.S. Senate. Am I right? Can we at least agree on that much?

Your "Handmaid's Tale" analogy notwithstanding, it sure sounds to me like the American people are having second thoughts about destroying the lives of unborn babies in the womb. An even BETTER film to watch might be "Unplanned," the real-life story of Abby Johnson (one of the youngest Planned Parenthood directors in the U.S.). It's not fiction, either, like your above-mentioned film. It really happened!

Because the Democrats had almost three times as many seats to defend as the Republicans did. If it had anything to do with abortion rights, the Republicans would have made gains in the House too. (Yes, I know only the Senate votes on Supreme Court nominations. But most people don't make that distinction in their votes, especially not on hot-button issues like abortion.)

And when Ruth Bader-Ginsburg leaves our nation's highest court (it's going to happen), President Trump's replacement pick will have a much EASIER time getting confirmed by the U.S. Senate. Am I right? Can we at least agree on that much?

Um, no. There is no way on earth Twitler won't appoint some demonspawn with views to the right of Rick Santorum, and there are some Republicans with shaky seats up in 2020.
