I don't get it either, but I think the general answer to any question of this kind is that there's no way to explain one's fetish to someone who doesn't share it. People are into what they're into, and if you're not into it you're never going to get it.

I don't understand the foot fetish. I don't get why some people are into pantyhose. I get stockings, but not pantyhose. I get pee, but not poop. I don't understand why some people love stories about revenge for infidelity so much, but they do. I doubt anyone could explain any of it to me in a way that would make sense. I assume it is first and foremost simply an enjoyment of Sci-Fi/Fantasy in general. Here on Lit, the element of explicit sexuality can be added to the story which spices it up...much like sex added into a western or any other category/genre. They're all fantasy worlds where reality takes a coffee break.

If you paid attention to each story, and the male of each story, you would find that the monster girl that the human male falls for 9/10 times will have animal attributes that work with what the male needs to deal with his problems.

have a man who needs a lot of nurturing affection and loves milk? holstaur his ass to happiness.

some types of monster girls aren't exactly convenient or for the sane.. however a nice kitsune would beat anything the world has to actually offer a man.

In short: We're writing in the element of fiction; it's fun to dabble in the elements of fiction.

In long, as a person who wonders why I'm attracted to monster girls, I've got no good answer.

Part of it is imagination. There are acts you can perform with monster girls that are flat-out impossible with human women. For example, with lamias, because they're part snake, tail jobs. Or using the tail like a tentacle. Heck, one of my most well-received stories is basically a tentacle massage by an octopus mermaid.

There's also an element of attraction to things you don't find in humans. For instance, shiny things when it comes to scales and soft fluffy things when it comes to fur or feathers. There's also people attracted to strength and people who are attracted to legitimate threats and dangers when you get to the more dangerous monster folks. The most basic (and perhaps most condescending) level of this logic is sheer raw exoticness; there's countless stories outside of monster folks where a person's skin tone or place of origin makes them more valuable, and this includes real life. I don't like this trope of our chosen genre, but it's the pot calling the kettle black. Of course, I'll always stand by lamias as having more curves than any other women.

It sounds like you're imagining the person in question like a PG World, where minotaurs can go without pants and mermaids only need to wear a shirt. There are lots of different ways to draw monster girls (and monster boys, we don't discriminate here). Going back to the lamia, oftentimes the vagina is at the joining between human and serpent. If you make your monster girl into a monster guy, you even get to have fun with what the penis looks like.

By the way, I define a proper 'Monster Girl/Guy' for the purposes of erotica as someone who is so 'other-than-human' that their body influences how they have sex. Elves don't go onto this list, and fantasy dwarves and goblins are more into the 'short-stack' fetish while amazonian orcs and japanese-style ogres play into the amazon fetish. Vampires don't count either unless something really interesting happens. Succubi (plural for succubus) don't really apply either, because their gimmick is hot woman, but even hotter, sometimes with horns or small wings.

I'd call myself one of the more vested people on this site into monster girls; most of my stories are Lesbian Monster Girl stories. Not all of them fit into my definition of Monster Girls, but I've done stories with a Harpy, with an Octomaid, with a Gargoyle (Galgoyle? Gargirl?), a Lamia (of course), and even a Slime Girl (which even I don't get, and I don't know why).
