This is about the writer/story side of the site, but I can find no way to get help over there. Nor have I ever gotten any help on the tech support section. I'm hoping I can find someone here who knows the other side well or can redirect me

If you click on "support" over there, I get a bunch of FAQs that don't address the issue. I tried "report a problem"—no response. The whole right-hand side of that screen says "contact us contact us contact us contact us contact us contact us (etc.)"— but no contact link. I'm pulling my hair out.

The problem is this: I can't change my email address over there. I mean, I try. Many times. I have a permanent message at the bottom of my Options page over there saying "Verification email sent to new address. Your email address will not be updated until you follow instructions in the verification email." But it has never arrived. And yes, of course, I've checked the spam filters. I even have a "Not Spam" filter in place for this site.

It's been a problem for a long time. My hunch is that the verification email was sent to the old address. But no way of knowing because that address has not worked for years. How do I fix this? Or how do I find and actual human being in tech support to talk to?

I posted a story over there a week ago. No response to that either, it's still in the "pending" file. I don't know how long that process takes, or if instructions get e-mailed—but if so, they will have been lost in the ethers.

Thanks for anything you can give me.

1. I can't help with email. Literotica managers do not respond to emails. I suggest you send a private message to Manu.

2. Pending for a week? The April Fool contest is currently running and during a contest other stories are delayed. Other authors are reporting delays to approving their stories. If it is your first story submission to Literotica, that would also delay approval as it has to be examined manually. If the delay continues then a PM to Laurel is your only remedy.

Thank you, my friend. All good information.

This is all second hand compound knowledge gathered reading the forum.

By and large this whole site seems to be two people enterprise, courtesy of Laurel and Manu.

I recall reading that changing password or email may get one in trouble, at least since more integrated account between story site and forums have been attempted with somewhat disastrous results never really repaired, but that's rumour level from me. Try to contact Manu.

Submitted stories pending time may differ from two days for established authors during relative low traffic times coinciding with good working mood for Laurel, but average more towards a week for first time authors (who apparently get more scrutiny) and in special occasions may reach up to ten days. Anything much longer may be considered an anomaly; easiest way to clear that apparently is to simply resubmit the story (what of course moves it to the back of the queue, but at least it is back in the queue). Story submissions is Laurel's highest priority work flow, and thus the most sure communication method. Anything else may be ignored.

On a side note, rejection should not be seen as fatal, polite explanation or minimal reworking of the problem bits may go long way sometimes.

Thank you for this. Re: changing e-mails getting me in trouble—I suppose that's already the case, and I'm trying to find my way out of it. I have no choice in the matter, because the old e-mail is defunct and unrecoverable. I changed it a year or more ago on the forum side, with no problem. I think that's when I started trying to change it on the story/writer side, also—or soon after, when I realized that changing one did not change the other. It has never worked.

I did send a message to Manu

Okay, so the e-mail has been corrected, and the story published. Thanks for your help in this.

But now tell me, if you will: what does this rating thing mean: 4.15 / 27?

it means 27 people voted and the consensus is your story aint that great.

Okay, thanks, but could you be more specific? The 4.15 part means what? 4.15 out of 100? out of 10? Or something else entirely?

Thanks again.

It's out of 5. Don't listen to haters. Anything 4.0 and above is good imho.

it's out of five, dude. lit has used a five star system for twenty years.

if you don't want to listen to "haters" then you should probably turn off scoring and delete all feedback or you're kinda missing the whole point.

^^True. I still think anything above 4.0 is decent. Actually I love feedback, met some really nice folks that way. Kinda lame to turn off voting and feedback.

Damn you, Peter! Now I have to add another carrot top as per Harpy's instructions.

my lowest rated story has a 4.2 and it honestly deserves worse. never write a story bombed off your ass.

or at least proof read the fucker. i'm pretty sure i dropped whole sentences. i toyed with the idea of fixing it and a few other early stories i wrote here, but it hurt my brain too much trying to figure out what the fuck i was talking about

Lol, my first story I wrote half bombed. It's teetering around 4.5. Had to edit it and resubmit it. Unfortunately editing doesn't fix your score you still have to keep the original votes. It was at 4.2 the first time around. Did rewrite another one because of feedback. Broke the old rule show don't tell. Worked tho story is great.
