53 and enjoying the sensual even more....things I would never entertain, now vividly captivate my imagination...temptations I never thought I would give over to...I have...time and age has begun to create a new thirst to explore and discover new pleasures.

Welcome, and it's a great feeling, isn't it!
Reaching the point(s) where we begin to question all those old "values," and to realize that there's no intellectual support for them, and to then let them fall from our backs like so much dead weight we've been hauling on our shoulders for a lifetime makes you feel so much lighter, doesn't it?.
And with that comes the ability to push on, always ready to explore more, crossing over the old boundaries we now realize were set by others and really have no place in our lives at all.
You'll find any number of threads on this site that discuss and/or celebrate this sort of late-in-life liberation in many of its various aspects.
CARPE DIEM!

As of yesterday I'm an official member of the club as well.

For some reason, this one has been a hard one to swallow. Life begins at 50 right??

Yeah, been a member for four years now, coming up on 55 May 7th :(

Anyway, I'm Deacon, or Lowphat, or just, "Hey you" works, lol.

I am soooo with you sweetie! I’m not a freak bout my age, but turning 50 last week really was hard (and not in a fun way ;) )!

I think I’m in that weird space at 50 because I was older when I had kids, so I still have teenagers instead of college age kids. So at 50 I’m still yelling at someone (usually the boy child) about their homework or having to drive someone somewhere... I’m rambling now because I’m still working on being okay with it. :)

Anyways...I like that I can come into this little space now all legit and stuff.

kinda like being in denial.. which is not a river in Africa..

Another shock will come when you get an information packet from AARP ..

On the bright side .. There are lots of discounts for AARP members..

P.S. I am NOT a member of AARP.. We don't need no stinkin' discounts.. or badges..

Fifty wasn't bad for me, but 60 knocked me on my face. When you realize there are more years behind you than in front of you, your perspective changes. Fast forward a few years and your high school classmates start checking out. I think that's the hardest thing to deal with. Somehow, you deal with it and keep on stepping.

*hugs*
Lost a classmate to cancer last week. :(

I'm sorry to hear that. You have my sincere condolences.

It hurts like hell.

Once you become an adult you face the reality of losing parents and grandparents. It's not easy, but you know it will happen. But you're not prepared to bury friends. One classmate was killed in a car accident shortly before graduation. Five years later another friend was killed in a car accident. Now we're losing someone every few months. We had a lot of people from out of town attend our 50th reunion for that very reason. We had one teacher attend! She was in her late 80s and passed away shortly thereafter.

I've learned to be thankful every day.

I understand. I'm in a weird place myself. Trying to come to terms with being 50 but feeling so much younger, not to mention where I am with my life is not what I expected? Maybe? Make sense?

Makes sense..

For me .. it was like.. there must be a typo .. I don't feel 50.. I don't act like I am 50.. so.. there must be a mistake somewhere..

It's like yesterday we were jumping rope and now we're old. Funny thing is that I'm old enough to be your mother. Damn!

OK, I just turned sixty in November. You need to stop sayin' stuff like that. It's really uncomfortable to those of us who appreciate your absolutely filthy, creative mind!

You're as old as you think you are. Some days I still feel forty. Some days I feel old as dirt.

Fuck the clock! Fuck the calendar! Fu- Ah my back!

There are days I feel 61 and then some and other days, I'm shocked to see an old lady in my mirror.
