Trump is going to Vietnam

Donald Trump avoided the military draft 5 times, but it wasn't uncommon for young men from influential families to do so during the Vietnam War

A young Donald Trump was seemingly in good health when he graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1968, as the United States was mired in one of the bloodiest years of the Vietnam War.

The 22-year-old — who was 6 feet 2 inches tall and an athlete — had already avoided the military draft four times in order to complete his college education.

But that spring, as he was set to graduate, he received a diagnosis that landed him a fifth draft deferment that would once again keep him out of Vietnam: bone spurs.

President Trump sat out the war and instead went on to join his father in business. The New York Times reported that the president, as a young man, said his "heel spurs," which are protrusions caused by calcium buildup on the heel bone, made him unfit for service.

Hope he doesn't develop bone spurs while he's there. (Also hope he doesn't come back.)

Someone should tell the prick he is 46 years too late.

You need to get past this idea that if Trump had joined the military and gone to Vietnam we would have won the war. It doesn't work like that. As much as you admire our president, you don't start off as a general in the Army.

Back in the day, if you would have told me a draft dodger that openly mocked a POW would be the nominee for the GOP in 2016 I would have laughed you out of the room.

Your story is two years late. Maybe you should have told everyone this...before the election. :)

Today's Republican Party likes leaders who trash the US, cozy up to Russian dictators, harass Gold Star families and steal money from the military.

If I had only known that in advance, I wouldn't have voted for him. Wait...I didn't vote at all.

Oh well. :)

Yet they demand the heavens, moon, and stars from Democratic candidates.

It's not simply a difference in political beliefs, these people are straight up trash.

Did you hear that Trump is going to Vietnam? Yeah, they told him the war is over.

ba dum tshhhhhh

Clinton's lack of service and extensive assistance in draft avoidance certainly didn't disqualify him from being president. I guess the precedent was set. :)

White trash. Let us be clear there is a descriptor in there.

Nobody seems to have very high hopes that anything will be accomplished in Hanoi.

The man who threw US farmers into a trade war instead of the TPP, who tried and failed to end Obamacare and the Iran nuclear deal, who tossed out NAFTA and returned with NAFTA 1.1, who couldn't keep the payroll going out to Federal workers (then suggested they were on strike), who botched the financial plan for a single wall, will now be giving Kim Jong-Un a photo-op in exchange for getting his name above the fold for a couple of days, and pushing Michael Cohen to page two.

Kim is probably going to tell Trump to go pho himself, without ever saying as much.

Well fuck it then. Trip is off. :)

The Vietnam War has been over for a while now.

What's that got to do with what I asked?

Had plenty of action between the start of the Vietnam "police action" and "military advising" and Trumps recent pull out of Syria.

BND wants to shit talk other folks for not going to war, so I'm curious to know how much combat experience he has as he sits there judging others.

That's because they are in love with Dear Leader. Whatever he does is perfect. They're in a cult. Or a dictatorship.
