Things that annoy you!

I was thinking about this as I made dinner.

I used to dine out with this person who loved fancy restaurants. She always ordered a salad. The kind that you get before the meal arrives.

When she got the salad, she would sit there for a while, admiring it, turning the plate this way and that, smiling. All the while she would be having a conversation with me or whoever else was there.

But then the annoying part came. While still doing all of the above, she would begin slicing through the salad with her knife, using her fork in it like she was holding a steak.

I would hear... Cut, cut, cut... Cut, cut, cut... Until it was the texture of a smoothie! All the while, she would keep her eye on the waitress or waiter to make sure that nobody took the salad from her. Meanwhile her dinner would come. So she would ask for a box for the salad, having never eaten a bite!

She would take the salad home where it would sit in the fridge along with a bunch of other salads, none of which were ever eaten. Her fridge was full of rotted stuff.

But for me the worst part was having to sit through all the noisy cutting. I could see it if there was a lettuce leaf or two that were too big to easily eat but she never ate it!

Is there anything that annoys you?

Here's another. People who pick fights with you and then insist that they're not fighting.

Actually.. there are several things, but the thing that annoys me the most is people's driving behavior in the US, specifically in the SouthEast.

Specifically, if there is a lane closure or a lane that is ending, yet drivers do not merge. Instead, they remain in the lane that is ending until it stops, then merge. What makes them more important than others? I perceive this as a form of disrespect, which I am obviously sensitive to.

This only slows down traffic for all the others who follow the rules. When I see this happening, I immediately move into the lane that is closing and drive the same speed as the traffic is flowing. One day, I am likely to get shot by some impatient maniac driver.. So, if I stop posting, ..

I was in Germany recently and was amazed at the difference. Drivers there understood the concept of the "zipper" technique when there is a lane closure.

Another major difference I noticed in Germany, is they do not pass on the right. In fact, it is unlawful to pass on the right in Germany. This simple concept significantly improves traffic flow. This is also how Germany can allow unlimited speed zones on their freeway system, aka, the Autobahn. German drivers, in my opinion, are much better drivers and more polite. They also give signals EVERY time they make a turn or change lanes.

I have driven in several areas in the US and, the SouthEast seems to be the worst. Maybe it is the NASCAR mentality or it is what was modeled for them by their parents, etc..

Sounds as if you have run into people who have seen the “I Want to Have an Argument” skit

*snip*

Actually, it IS correct to not merge until you reach the end of the lane. Doing so means the merging is done in a consistent manner instead of some moving over far ahead of the closure, some sort of close, and some at the end of the lane. This depends, of course, on the people in the open lane driving courteously and not cutting off those trying to merge. I last read this in a newsletter put out by our toll road system and also in something from the DOT. I live in a major urban area, and we have construction all over the place, all the time. Think about it - the teeth on a zipper come together in one spot, as it closes, not at different spots along its length.

That being said, it totally annoys me too, just like you! :D

They do that here too! And we have what I call the "stupid lane". This is when the street one is turning off of is a busy, multi lane one so they put two left hand turn lanes. No warning sign that the outer lane is gong to end almost as soon as you complete the turn. So the people in the outer lane are supposed to "zipper" and those in the inner lane are supposed to let them in. As in, if I were in the inner lane, I would let one car in, in front of me and the next would get behind me. But there are always some Jackwagons who won't wait their turn. These stupid lanes cause all sorts of accidents.

Here they will often let you know of a lane closure quite a ways back but people often either get stuck at the end because nobody would let them in, or they drive like a bat out of hell to the end then cut over without looking.

LOL @ jackwagons ..:D

When I am old... and don't give a shit about insurance, etc.. I am going to buy a $500 pick-up truck and have a big ass steel bumper installed on it.. So, the next time some jackwagon doesn't give me the little wave after forcing his way in front of me.. I am going the ram the shit out of their car... :D

Hehehe.

Poky people in the hammer lane on the Hywy. Move over if you can't keep the speed limit.

Amen!!

And.. on a two-lane road, people that drive 5-10 miles below the posted speed limit because they are on their cell phone!!

In California, it is unlawful to impede traffic flow by not moving out of the passing lane .. i.e. if another vehicle is closer than 2 car lengths behind a vehicle in the passing (hammer) lane, they will be given a ticket. :) My kind of State!!

Lol...oh yes that hits a nerve too.

People chewing ice
People eating crunchy food
People who keep sipping through the straw when the drink is obviously gone
People who lie
People who are late
People who are mean to people for no reason
Squeaking dog toys
Winter
My ex husband

That’s all I’ve got so far. Lol

People who manufacture drama into their lives, then complain about what happened.
People whose first thoughts are about why THEY are getting mistreated. Never about others.
People who take over a conversation during other people stories to talk about how THEIR example of the same story is funnier/weirder/more impressive.
People who demonstrate random, arbitrary bouts of sarcasm as their usual way of talking to strangers.
People who are impatient while watching all the other impatient people struggle with the same situation.
People who are judgmental and use faux-facts as their rationale - like seeing a car not parked properly in a parking structure without knowing what that specific car was faced with by the previous cars in the next spots.
People who assume it is OK to bring a small child to a more adult-style restaurant and think saying, "Shhhhh" actually works to quiet their whiny-as-fuck child.
People who decide it is their duty to bring attention to a person or situation that clearly requires discretion.

The list goes on and on...

I agree. Fill both lanes equally until the merge, and then its alternate merge.

What really gets me going is people who cut into exit traffic at the last moment, AND the idiots who leave enough room between them and the car in front to allow them to do so!!! Those are the times I wish I had a little mortar on the top of my car....BOOM!

Interesting point.. and I had a real life discussion with a friend on this topic who also believes this the best method.

However, why is it fair to the drivers who merge out of the lane that is closing early to have the wait longer than those who will jump waaayy ahead then merge creating slower traffic flow for all the others behind them...?

The notification for the lane closure is to allow drivers time to merge .. similar to the length of an exit ramp to merge into traffic.. however.. that is different as the drivers that are merging into the flow of traffic from an onramp are not jumping ahead of the others as they are coming from a different direction.

I agree that at high speeds, the warning should cause you to move well before the end of the lane. But, when you are driving in an urban area, it's pretty much given that traffic will slow to a crawl at the merge. Therefore, it's better to fill both lanes and do an orderly alternate merge at the end. In fact, not doing so can cause accidents, as frustrated drivers will suddenly move from the stopped lane to the moving lane.

Sick people that still go to work. Unless they don't get sick time. But that's a thing that needs to change.

People bringing their screaming kids out in public and doing nothing to keep them quiet. I have no problem with other people's kids being around general. But when they misbehave and the parents do nothing to quiet them? C'mon, man.

This phrase: "Bad sex is like bad pizza. Even when it's bad, it's still okay." I've had bad sex and bad pizza. This is so blatantly not true. So enjoy your Totinos and weak handjobs.

People that are terrible at cooking but think they're amazing. I'm specifically referring to my ex-girlfriend. I mean how do you fuck up pot roast in a crockpot? And who the fuck thinks canned goods are a good substitute for fresh vegetables? I'm glad you moved on and gained 90 pounds, you life-ruining degenerate.

This phrase: "The customer is always right." No they fucking aren't.

Valid point .. under those circumstances the empty lane will fill up by default due to the volume of traffic.. and everyone is committed to moving at a crawl at that point so no one is really jumping ahead.. so to speak... at least not waaaay ahead as in scenario of a lane closure on a freeway.

The lane closing had high speed on a freeway is what I was referring to initially..

Right now the thing annoying me is people who ask for your advice and then tell you you're wrong.

Haha, yeah, exactly.. And the ones who say "relax" - even if it's not in person, and they can't sense the tone.
