I really hate to see a request for feedback go unanswered. At seven pages What a Long Strange Trip It's Been was longer than I usually take on, but I took it in stages.

At first, I struggled to see how the story got into the Romance category. It seemed like BDSM, Mature, or even Non-consent would have been a better fit. But eventually I got it as Alan and Lillian's relationship matured.

One thing I missed was Alan's motivation for getting involved with Lillian in the first place. I'm still not entirely clear why a guy who was basically blackmailed into putting out for a teacher was so quickly eager to do MORE than she demanded. Or why he was willing to let himself be abused like he was. I know some guys get off on that sort of thing, but the narrator never really described himself having such a history. There was no introspection about his own motivation or what he was getting out if it or why he enjoyed it.

Given the scope if the story, that's a fairly minor quibble, but it came up fairly early and may have stopped others from reading further. My only other complaint is some wonky paragraph formatting.

Overall, it was well written and surprisingly tender. A good Valentine's romance.
