January 4th is National Trivia Day. That's a bit of trivia right there.

My head is filled with useless knowledge. It helps me in my job. So let's hear some of the trivial stuff you have floating around in your head. I'll start:

Jerry Springer was born in a tube station in London during WW2.

Ok. One more. Johnny Cash's brother Tommy released a single in 1965 called "I didn't walk the line."

Table and furniture "skirts" were created to keep men from being sent into a sexual frenzy by the sight of shapely legs...

Darrel Dragon (aka "The Captain" of "The Captain and Tenille") was a stand-in for Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys when they performed at concerts. In their heyday, Brian Wilson didn't tour with the band.

It makes sense. Sometimes you hear about people who fuck furniture. It sounds weird at first, but I always ask, “What was the table wearing?”

You always have to wonder if the table was just asking for it.

The reason a fish is used as a symbol for Christ is because early Christians used it as a covert sign of their religion to avoid being discovered by Roman officials. The word "fish" in Greek is ΙΧΘΥΣ (Ichthus) which they used as an acronym for "Jesus Christ, Son of God the saviour"

I'll let you think about it a bit...

Apple have recently built a new office in Silicon Valley made entirely of glass. On the first day, seven people had to be taken to hospital for injuries from walking into glass doors.

Every president of the U.S. elected in a year ending in zero from 1840 through 1960 died in office. No others did.

The pattern was broken in 1981 when improved trauma surgery saved Reagan (elected in 1980) after he was shot.

A law in ancient Rome ordered prostitutes to wear yellow wigs .

The state with the lowest rate of obesity in the US in 2017 (Colorado at 22.6%) has a higher obesity rate than the state with the highest obesity rate had in 1990 (Mississippi at 15%).

The hair on a polar bear is actually not white but clear. They appear white because it reflects light.

"Espionage"

Lord Baden Powell spyed for the British in India and South Africa, disguised as an upper crust twit looking for insects. There's a famous sketch of his in the original Scout handbook of a fort hidden in a butterfly wing.

Julia Child spyed for the forerunner of the OSS in Manchuria before WWII.

Noel Coward spyed for the Brits traveling the world before and during the war as an entertainer.

David Niven's role near the end of WWII is still covered by the official secrets act!

Johnny Cash was assigned to the US Airforce Intllegence Codes section in Germany in the 50s. They wanted him to stay in the Air Force.

George Bush Sr. was the head of the CIA under Richard Nixon.

Before he wrote Goosebumps, R.L. Stine wrote the jokes on Bazooka Joe comics in the gum wrappers.

Coyotes are faster than roadrunners, actually. By 23 mph on average.

A can of Coke thrown into a swimming pool will sink. A can of Diet Coke thrown into a swimming pool will float.

(Great thread, BB!)

the 2 hecklers from the balcany in the muppet show are statler and waldorf

An alipile is a servant employed to remove unwanted armpit hair

It's amazing to think about how much harder everything was before modern inventions (in this case a modern razor). How much more labor intensive.

I can't imagine anybody today, no matter how rich, has a servant for removing armpit hair.
