Stopping the Caravan.....maybe.

It's not "astonishing" it's a remarkable lack of courtesy and professionalism on the part of the press corp.

Trump can lie all he wants. The job of the press is to REPORT IT, not challenge him over it. But hey, go pat yourself on the back, Reid showed him. Right?

As long as trump apologists refuse to call him out on anything he says or does, that's true... or until the Mueller investigation concludes, then I suspect he'll answer for those things.

And it's more of an "astonishing" performance by the president.. over and over and over.

You know, for the cost of sending the Army to the border, we could feed and house all those refugees for life.

It's a video you ignorant dumbfuck.

Fake news, butthead. The same laws Trump is enforcing now were enforced by Obama and have been the law since the 90's. The policy of separating children from parents in immigration detention has been enforced by every President since the 90's, and Obama didn't do it any different.

I did not watch the video because I block them in my browser, but I read the article. I find this to be an interesting phenomenon where reporters now believe they can just contradict the President while he is making a statement to the press.

How did it become a "conversation" where the reporters participate and offer their personal/political viewpoints in real time? Isn't it their job to just report the news, not make it?

Yes, the press can fact check. That's their job. No, the press can't contradict the President to his face and then leave in a huff(inton post) to claim moral victory. That's not their job.

This is the problem Acosta has. Apparently Reid has the same affliction.

As for the substance; didn't those pictures of "children in cages" in 2014 come from the Obama era? How was that not "family separation"?

Wow. You really are a fucking moron, aren't you?

That is the purpose of having a free press in a democracy. Otherwise you have nothing but propaganda.

You right wingers really would be fine living in a fascist state, wouldn't you?

It's not "astonishing" it's a remarkable lack of courtesy and professionalism on the part of the press corp.
It all starts with a a presumption of courtesy. When one party to the interaction deviates from that there's no obligation to remain courteous, especially when the president not only is discourteous to the press, congress and the American people, but also to the office of the president.
If he wants people to be courteous to him he needs to show he deserves it.

For the most part the press has not been contradicting him to his face for most of his term, only reporting it and reporting the actual facts of the topic. What we've ended up with is a substantial proportion of the populace that believes the lies he tells.

It's way past time for the press to call the president on the lies, and I hope they continue the trend. In perpetuity.

As for "professionalism" they are interacting with someone who doesn't know the meaning of the word.

I can only assume you're rolling your eyes at your own ignorance.

The Obama administration only separated families when th adults were arrested for a criminal offense that would be criminal for anyone in the US.
The result was very few, comparatively, families were separated because, as a percentage, few illegal immigrants commit crimes in the US.

Trump chose, unlike Obama, to intentionally incarcerate adults traveling with their kids so the families would be separated, in order to deter entry to the US. Sessions even said that was the reason.

GTFO with weak shit. There are still thousands separated.

Yes, yes he is really that fucking stupid.

this is rich

Trump is using the caravan for his political goals?
...
it amazes me the sheer ignorance of people this day and age
If you look at how often he (and Fox) talked about the caravan in the lead up to the mid-terms vs the 2 weeks after, you'd have to be pretty ignorant to not recognize that's exactly what he was doing.

I have a feeling that the high influx of illegals and caravans will negatively affect countries like Ukraine, China or Nigeria.

People (particularly from China and India) say that when applying for visas for job interviews, they often get:
"I'm sorry about all this scrutiny, but we need to make sure that you have enough ties to your country because you're from a country of high immigration risk."

I don't judge American Liberals for preferring their neighbors (South Americans) over other countries and ethnic groups. EU did the same.
But why aren't they open about it?

Is anyone trying to restrict immigration from Norway?

Is anyone trying to restrict immigration from Norway?

Do you see me as having anything in common with Norwegians? Or Brits?
I'm much more curious in how these things might affect those in the same bucket as I: Eastern, SouthEastern Europeans, Chinese and Indians.

Would have been nice to have had Immigration Reform in 2013

So let's see what the GOP failed action has wrought.

Had the Senate passed bi-partisan bill been taken up in the House, S.744 - Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act, the caravan would have been facing a different legal landscape, more and higher fences, increased numbers of border agents, requirements for submission to biometric identification, prevention of entry until identity can be established, changes to the petitioning of refugee status etc, etc :

(Sec. 3718) Directs the Secretary of State, upon notification from the Secretary, to prohibit visas to be granted to persons of a country whose government denies or unreasonably delays accepting their citizens, subjects, nationals, or residents back.

Requires every alien applying for U.S. admission to submit to biographic and biometric screening to determine whether the alien's name or biometric information is listed in any U.S. terrorist watch list or database.

Makes an RPI alien ineligible for any federal means-tested benefit, and considers such person to be a noncitizen for certain other federal benefits.

Makes a blue card alien ineligible for any federal means-tested benefit.

(Sec. 1203) Requires the Secretary of State to develop, in consultation with Congress, a strategy to address the unauthorized immigration of individuals who transit through Mexico to the United States, to include specific steps to: (1) enhance training, resources and professionalism of border and law enforcement officials in Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, and other countries, as appropriate; and (2) educate nationals of such countries about the perils of the journey to the United States.

(Sec. 4417) Amends title XIX (Medicaid) of the Social Security Act to deny eligibility for medical assistance to B visa (visitors) and F visa (students) nonimmigrants. Requires the Secretaries of HHS and the Treasury to conform all regulations relating to eligibility for health-related programs that they administer to reflect amendments to the definition of "lawfully residing" made by this Act.

Directs: (1) the Comptroller General (GAO) to review the Secretary's methods of tracking entering and exiting aliens and detecting overstays, and (2) the Secretary to evaluate the security risks of aliens entering the United States without an approved Electronic System for Travel Authorization verification.

(Sec. 1103) Authorizes the governor of a state, with the approval of the Secretary of Defense (DOD), to order National Guard units or personnel to perform operations in the Southwest border region to assist CBP in securing the southern border. Directs DOD to provide material and logistical assistance as needed.

Directs the Secretary to enhance border infrastructure by: (1) constructing additional Border Patrol stations in the Southwest border region, (2) upgrading and establishing additional Border Patrol operating bases, and (3) establishing a grant program with the Secretary of Transportation (DOT) to construct transportation improvements at international border crossings. Authorizes FY2014-FY2018 appropriations.

Requires an alien applicant to satisfy federal tax liabilities and security and law enforcement clearances.

Prohibits the Secretary from granting blue card status to an alien (or dependent spouse or child) unless such person submits eligibility-related security and law enforcement biometric and biographic data.

Excludes W-3 and W-4 workers from need-based federal financial assistance programs.

(Sec. 2303) Repeals the diversity immigrant program as of October 1, 2014. (AKA the "Green Card Lottery")

(Sec. 3409) Prohibits an alien from being admitted as a refugee or asylee until such person's identity has been checked against all appropriate databases to determine any national security, law enforcement, or other grounds under which the alien may be inadmissible or ineligible to apply for refugee or asylee status.

Subtitle G: Interior Enforcement - (Sec. 3701) Makes an alien who has been convicted of an offense for which an element was active and knowing participation in a criminal street gang inadmissible and deportable.

(Sec. 3702) Makes an alien who has been convicted three or more times for driving under the influence or driving while intoxicated inadmissible and deportable.

(Sec. 3703) Revises the definition of "aggravated felony" regarding the evidentiary determination of minority in instances of murder, rape, or sexual abuse of a minor.

(Sec. 3704) Revises criminal penalty and related affirmative defense provisions regarding illegal entry and reentry, including by increasing criminal penalties for such violations.

(Sec. 3711) Makes certain aliens inadmissible who: (1) refuse to comply with a lawful request for biometric information (provides authority for individual and class waivers); (2) have been convicted of a crime of domestic violence, stalking, child abuse, child neglect, or child abandonment; or (3) are in violation of a domestic protection order by engaging in conduct that constitutes criminal contempt of such order.

In 2013 Obama gassed illegals 26 times and nobody in the media said shit.
