Fellow goes to sleep for a while and all kinds of things happen.

Well, I for one am glad you are around again in whatever capacity makes you happy Gracie.

The rest of it... Well, I deliberately wasn't involved and have no desire to be. Whatever went down is Gracie's business, and whatever is between her and Chris is their business.

Did I mention I'm making meatloaf for dinner tonight while listening to Meatloaf?

Serendipity!

Your meatloaf reminds me that you made turkey chili, which reminds me that I haven't made my turkey meatloaf in quite a while. I make a pretty good turkey meatloaf.

Now meatloaf and chili are both going on the menu. Thanks!

Winter food! I also make a bitchin curried butternut squash soup that is to die for.

Oh shit! I forgot one detail in the recipe I sent you! I take kale leaves and freeze them, then you can crumble the leaves without the hard stems. No chopping! Super awesome kitchen hack.

I think we might need to have a private chat about that. Yum!

I'm not sure I can put kale in my chili yet, but I will give it careful consideration. :D

I know it sounds strange, but you literally don't even notice it. Small shreds of it just add a little bit of body to it, plus you are slipping in some dark leafy greens.

The soup is a bit time consuming, but freezes well. Do you have a good food processor? That'll help to puree the squash.

PM me for that recipe if you want.

Okay... you've almost talked me into it.

I have a very good food processor, as well as other assorted tools.

it really doesnt take that much effort unless you are like trying to start with duck or something

For sure! Start small and move from there.

The things I'm talking about tonight are very basic recipes. Pick something you love to eat and work on it until it's just how you like it. Go from there. It's not something that you acquire overnight.

I make some really elaborate things, especially for holidays, but most of my cooking is what I make on regular work nights.

I'm good at the flavor part of cooking and coming up with what works together, its the mechanics of doing it that I get lost, it helps to have a partner that is more stove inclined to work with me lol.

If you did have a partner who was more inclined, there'd probably be less cookin and lots more fookin😂

I’ve learned, over the years, that it’s not cooking that requires patience, but baking! I can cook anything I want, but I can’t even bake cookies from a package. 😫

this. so much.

i was in a national cooking contest and cant bake a damn roll of cookie dough with out screwing up

The preparation and cleaning up after is something I hate, that's why I need lots of motivation to cook.

*blinks* Wow...The lesson here, is obviously, never go to work.

Also, there are some people on Lit, who make me feel quite sane.

Maybe we should start the "Great Lit Bake Off"?
Just need some good looking judges to do the tasting ;)

Am I the only one here who has a bit of success in baking?

There is, to a large degree, science involved. For instance, I typically measure by weight rather than volume. Though, there is some art to it as well, which I need more practice to fully develop, in understanding the proper feel of the dough and adjusting for the environment, etc.

Of course, there is some science to cooking as well, though I think that tends to be learned more naturally, with more ease, because one tends to cook more than bake.
