President Donald Trump told Axios he is planning to terminate birthright citizenship, potentially setting up another constitutional standoff.

Trump said Monday he will sign an executive order that would remove the right to citizenship for babies of noncitizens and unauthorized immigrants born on U.S. soil.

"It was always told to me that you needed a constitutional amendment. Guess what? You don't," Trump said in the interview by Axios on HBO, the news site's new documentary series.

"We're the only country in the world where a person comes in and has a baby, and the baby is essentially a citizen of the United States ... with all of those benefits," Trump said. "It's ridiculous. It's ridiculous. And it has to end."

There will be immediate court-shopping to stop this order and cause a rush to southern hospitals from below the border.

Yep, I can see it—and of course, dumb-fuck Trumpsters will hem and haw about it and Trump polarizes things more.

I share the anti- illegal immigration sentiment too.
It's because of illegals that so many Europeans and Asians have been denied visas. And 10 millions of green cards for illegals automatically means several thousands less for people like me.

But without trying to barge too much into your guys' affairs, it sounds inhumane to me, to deny a small window of opportunity for Dreamers. It's not their fault that they were dragged here, and the trauma of dislocation would be enormous for them.

Of course there will be. And it all it will all end up in SCOTUS. :)

I believe this notion of citizenship came about as an interpretation of the 14th amendment. An interpretation that is in conflict with both the intent and stated purpose of the 14th.

It's going to be fun, you bet.

From what I've seen, the bulk of the dreamers were drug here from families and communities and speak Spanish. They have their education, let them go home and spread the benefice of of the gifts we gave them, often at taxpayer expense, in order to elevate their familial societies.

We live on stolen land.

Moreover, didn't some of the Founding Fathers oppose citizenship as if the government can give it, it can take it away?

Most anti-immigrant-types are bigots—and most who oppose "illegal aliens" also oppose immigration in general. They are mostly mean bigots, who should be taken seriously as they obviously have power and numbers, but morally, their position is barren.

I don't care about your theories.

I only adhere to mine: illegal immigration automatically discriminates against potential Legal immigrants.

You obviously don't mingle with immigrants. Otherwise, you'd realize that most Legal immigrants (South American included) share my view.

First of all the dreamers are NOT birthright citizens now. This order would have no effect on them one way or another.

Secondly the order would have no effect on those already having been granted citizenship prior to the order being signed. The Constitution has a provision prohibiting an ex post facto enactment. The order would only apply going forward.

and I don't care about the supposed validity of theories of bigots.

Bigots discriminate against immigrants.

Yeah, Latinos for Trump are a powerful lobby.

Send the Mex'cans back! We're a bunch of dumb-fuck Trump-ass-kissing bigots!

Very few civilizations have risen upon "un-stolen" land.

Uh-huh, and those with more aboriginal blood than us are kind of entitled.

I know a lot of you Trumpsters hate Latinos and brown people, and are more sympathetic to Nazis, but hey, if my posts piss off your bigoted sensibilities, well I'm not that sorry.

Now go pray at your fake Christian churches with Mike Pence.

I think I'm going to wait to read the EO before I say whether it is or isn't something something.

That said, most likely there's a judge somewhere in the 9th circuit who's probably already been "talked to" about this.

I am a brown people moron and I am not a fan of Trump.
Don't let hate make you an idiot.

It's funny to see how people like Corporal DumBFFFuck lump together people (who have few things in common), based solely on the color of their skin.

An African immigrant doesn't think the same as an African-American.
A South American nurse on a work visa doesn't like being conflated with an ilegal who hasn't finished High school.

And they do it while accusing others of bigotry and racism too. lol.

They see the world through a lens of bigotry and hatred. And, because they can't understand how anyone else can't not do that, they point their fingers at others and say "racist" because what you are inside is how you look at and treat others.

Absolutely true. The authors of the 14th Amendment explained the meaning of the operative terms, "and subject to the jurisdiction thereof," which completely upends the the idea that illegal aliens born here are citizens.

This is meaningless. Birthright citizenship is based on court interpretations of the 14th. The president cannot reverse that by EO.
