Lawn signs are...98.3 percent useless
"To a campaign manager, lawn signs are similar to randomly handing out fliers at a grocery store: a waste of time, money and energy. Now there’s data out that, in the main, proves campaign managers right."
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...-98-3-percent-useless/?utm_term=.a84ed171ea11

"Based on pooled results, lawn signs are `on par with other low-tech campaign tactics such as direct mail that generate … effects that tend to be small in magnitude.'”

I fucking hate those things. This is a small district and they are EVERYWHERE. They become background noise. Ugly background noise.

Sign, sign, everywhere a sign
Blockin' out the scenery, breakin' my mind
Do this, don't do that, can't you read the sign?

Then why do they do it, I wonder?

I recall a New Yorker cartoon -- a guy takes a flyer from a guy handing them out (such are all over the place in NYC), and says, "Hey, gee, thanks!" while the other guy glares at him in disgust. The caption is, "How to spot an out-of-towner."

I vote just so I can tell people I don't like who I voted for (most of them vote for the opposite candidate). I have no false hope that my chosen candidate will do 50% of what they promise; instead, my reason for voting means I get what I want, regardless: the ability to annoy weak people as a patriotic duty.

Of course, I take full responsibility for whatever candidate or policies I vote for despite this. That's why I'm proud to say I'll have been on the right side of history by not having voted for Trump. Trumpublicans, however, will never be able to wipe away that stain from themselves. Very sad - jobs and relationships will be lost. :( But they asked for it.

There is some merit to be found in the ‘can’t complain about the results if you didn’t participate in the vote’ argument.

Some would tell you though, that abstaining is just their way of casting a vote for None Of The Above.

So? What would happen if that were an actual choice on the ballot? Certainly not that the office would be left vacant.

Compulsory voting in a free country. What a concept!

They are compulsory voting in Australia, which, arguably, is a freer country that the United States is under Trump and the newly configured Supreme Court. Government by theocracy isn't free for a whole lot of people.

Most places low voter turnout harms Democrats. How is that a problem?

People with little to no information and who are not engaged in the political process shouldn't vote in any case. Name recognition and incumbency are the two most powerful forces at work. Yard and Corner signs are how the majority of the American electorate decides which box to tick

Please spend your time and energy on signs, and we’ll be over here hitting targeted doors and making targeted phone calls informing people.

Someone should point that out to Que and everyone else here that admitted to not voting on 2016, yet run their mouths all the live long day.

I live in one of the most hardcore (D) counties in one of the most hardcore (D) states.

As someone who no longer supports (D)'s or their bullshit lies, please tell me why I should bother or how not voting invalidates a political opinion???

More than just candidates on a ballot and it would also be a long game for those in the minority. If a place is 80% D and the R's don't bother cuz of it but then they notice (and they would) that now it's 75% and then in a couple years it's 70% and so on, the R's start to campaign, put some money into the area, make it a fight.

And most places are not one party all the way thru. If you support a party or even just oppose one, why would you not vote for few who have a chance?
Not voting is just lazy and the excuses are all bullshit.

They don't know about Ca's wacky "top two" system.

So, for the Litsters who don't know; in Ca the system is set up so that the top two candidates who get the most votes in the primary are the ONLY candidates on the election ballot. If both of the top vote-getters are Democrat, then your choice on who to vote for is this Dem or that one.

In that situation, voting is useless if you don't agree with the Democrat ideology.

The same applies if an abundance of rich people and idiots vote for two republicans.

Vote in the primaries. How hard is that to understand?

Fuck that shit. Nothing entices a voter like the smell of a sausage cooking on the barbecue and throwing a dollar at whatever charity is cooking it for you.

If you were in denim serving BBQ and passing out singles, I'd move to Australia just to vote.

Yes, vote in primaries, vote for local offices, run for office your darn self. Or, you know, bitch all day and do absolutely nothing.

Long game? Nah, I don't care enough about this community to get fucked by it for the rest of my life.

I'm pulling the most powerful vote I've got, my only REAL vote, my money.

I'm going fire 8 people, take my shit and leave, just like a dozen other bidnizzez including Costco. Hopefully the Depot and some others join us, they gotta be feeling it.

Or any idea how cobalt blue the north coast is. There are like 3 republicans and a dozen "Not democrats" in the whole county.

If you're not a (D) looking for a circle jerk feel good there it's a WASTE OF FUEL AND TIME to even fucking bother.

If my area were purple and I didn't want to burn it down just to spite the shit heads who live here I'd still vote.

In Ca, D's outnumber R's by 2 to 1. That means that if the R's have 100% turnout, the D's still win if they can turn out 51%.

The game is rigged. No one wants to play against a team that is 2x the size of yours. Especially one where the referees are as biased and one-sided as the rules.

In Ca you have 4 choices:

Vote for the D.
Don't vote for the D.
Run for office with a platform that gives voters a choice and not make it to the election ballot after the primary shellacking you're going to get.
Move.

Right now a lot of Californians are choosing option #4.

Lol, your lemonade stand is almost on par with costco.

Bwahaha... what happened to the meth head ghetto being the greatest place on the planet??

I'm sure those imaginary 8 people are going to really miss you. What an absolutely fucking bullshitter you are.

Don't you ever tire of looking like a total fool???
