Trump wins AGAIN! Canada caves and joins trade deal

This is only if you define "winning" as playing to Trump's ego just enough to maintain a relationship with the U.S. until he is gone.

Like the deal with North Korea, "winning" simply means giving the easily-manipulated and narcistic Trump the illusion that he has accomplished something. That is not a very high bar to reach, and in many cases, the real winners are the ones who negotiate with him. For example, Kim Jung Un has now been elevated to the status of a super-power, and Trump is publicly professing his love for Kim.

Trump desperately wants to be seen as the guy who met all of his campaign promises and solved all problems. The real problem is, this emperor is buck naked to everyone except the right-wing circle-jerk.

and look, Donald Trump, let's be fair, I mean as he relates to women, he doesn't have the best track record, so I can see how he could dislike, a strong principled person like Chrystia Freeland. Ah, frankly she is deeply principled, smart, articulate: I'm glad she's on our team. So, look, the fact he doesn't like her, that's his problem.

This deal with Mexico and Canada kicks China in the balls. They have to go through us to gain access to Mexican or Canadian markets.

Yeah, I read that too.

Pity Canada agreed to essentially getting US permission to further negotiate with China, but I'm not sure it affects Canada's current deals or trade with that country, or non-negotiated trade, so Trump's attempt to strangle free trade and protect non-competitive US companies (many, I suppose his supporters) at the expense of the long term interest of the competitive ones—for which in America there are many—is somewhat foiled.

China needs to be punished for ripping off our technology and other intellectual property. They're going to lose this trade war. Already they're asking for negotiations. Trump should let them dangle for a while.

totally not a racist

Information is free, or should be, so in this rare instance, I'm kind of with the Chinese.

Pity Chystia didn't use it as a weapon against Trump. Pity she didn't act on it: many Americans visiting Canada for cheaper drugs probably would have been grateful.

Read my link—perhaps not now as it's a bit wordy: why are (some) Americans complaining about the Chinese essentially gift-giving?

(Maybe they fear the yellow peril, and hate Orientals.)

Classified information and proprietary information isn't free. In the case of the Chinese $500 billion worth is stolen every year in the United States by Chinese operatives.

Maybe we fear Communism, especially the "Red Peril" of militarized communism built from stolen American technology, and financed by lopsided trade deals. I say repay them by squeezing their economy to within an inch of its life.

The Chinese never invented anything that we use (or used).

Trump hates Communism: this is why he sucks up to Putin and sends love letters to Un.

What billions will he give to subsidize American soybean farmers, or will he cast them aside?

Let us not forget the con artist got Canada to open its dairy market to the tune of 0.000003 percent for American dairy farmers. That's how much milk they'll be able to put into the Canadian market compared to the entirety of milk production in this country.
