President Donald Trump has withdrawn ex-CIA Director John Brennan's security clearance, in a move hitting one of the administration's most vocal critics.
The action, announced Wednesday by press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, is more of a political than practical one.
Sanders said the White House will also consider whether to revoke security clearances of other former high-ranking law enforcement and intelligence officials — all of whom have earned Trump's ire. Those people include former ex-FBI Director James Comey, former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, former National Security Advisor Susan Rice, ex-Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe, former FBI agent Peter Strzok and ex-FBI Lawyer Lisa Page.

Displaying the emotional maturity of an eleven year old spoiled brat.

Sounds like he's doing what he should be doing and most other POTUS's have done to people under their command that couldn't manage enough professionalism to STFU and do their jobs.

Displaying the emotional maturity of an eleven year old spoiled brat.

So pretty much all successful management has the maturity of an eleven year old.

Have you ever been in a management position?

Why give former officials a lifetime of access to the country’s secrets after they’ve left their job?

Sounds like a national security risk to me.

It should be automatic when you leave the post.

These folks aren't being given any classified material anymore unless they are brought in as consultants by the administration. It's all just Trumpian symbolism.

So there’s no reason for them to have clearance.

You just dont like it because it’s trump.

What a surprise; do you guys rickroll and selftroll yourselves with this tripe every day?

You don't really know how security clearances work do you?

Sounds like some folks have no idea what they are talking about.

You going to explain how this is a hissy fit or makes him a snowflake??

Or is that just the standard hate spew for anything he can and could possibly ever do?

More importantly, i don’t care.

I do know i’d do the same thing if i were trump. Why reward people who are pissing on your cornflakes? Fuck em.

Brennan is a liar, in fact a perjurer, and a leaker of classified information which he still could be prosecuted for. He sows disinformation in support of the soft coup he supervised to steal the election for Hillary which is now coming apart all around him. The CIA policy for the maintenance of one's security clearance after leaving office is to conduct yourself as if "you are still employed by the CIA." He is a security risk. As a former Communist he should never have been granted a security clearance in the first place.

Mkay.

It's a fairly meaningless way to give them the finger and send the (D)'s all foaming at the mouth like a bunch of triggered snowflakes.

So sure why not.

Agro should soon be starting another new thread; the news ticker on the weather and time channel must have refreshed by now?

I’d say this is the dumbest thing you’ve said here, but I won’t because you’re going to say something dumber in the next hour.

^^^^From our leading purveyor of “opinion as fact.”

Why do ex employees even get to keep their security clearance? When I quit my job I can't even use the employee bathroom anymore.

Totally cool when Colin Powell did it though, amirite?

As I have said before nice pic of the penis you don't have. Nice car though. Sad penis. Don't have a girlfriend with big plastic breasts to stand in front of it?

Point out where I said I didn't like it. It's Trumpian symbolism because his administration doesn't consult with anyone in past administrations of any political bent, so there's no need at the moment for these folks to have clearances. They aren't being consulted. That's not me saying I don't like it. I don't mind the Trump administration stepping on its dick left and right because has no experience and won't tap any.

Yes, there's normally a reason for these folks to have clearance. They are the institutional memory of past events/decision/reasoning. They have clearances, as I said, to be called in for specific consultations on specific continuing issues. If they aren't going to be called in, though, there's no reason for them to have clearances. They aren't being kept in any classified-information loop.

Some posters to this thread seem to think these people are regularly briefed. Not so, they are only brought in when their experience is needed and only then shown what is needed for them to give benefit of their institutional knowledge.

"All successful management"

That's why he isn't taken seriously. He extrapolates and ascribes like he gets paid for it.

We’ll see how long Trump’s security clearance lasts when he leaves office.

I didn't lose my security clearances when I retired--because I was still being brought in to provide historical context to ongoing issues. They lapsed as my institutional knowledge faded and I occasionally asked not to be in on certain discussions. It they'd called me in, though, and demanded I give information, I would have had to. The conditions of my annuity were that I'd also be available to consult. And if they got into classified information in a consult it would be up to them to keep my clearances in order.

Someone like Brennan would have important institutional knowledge for as long as he lived and if they brought him in and wanted to discuss classified material, they'd have had to maintain his clearances. That doesn't mean he was give classified information willy-nilly and regularly--only in the context needed in a consult.

But, as I noted, the Trump administration isn't doing any research into the institutional memory, so there's no need to keep folks' clearances current.
