Aussies! Check in here!

having a multi week race in Japan and attracting all the world tour teams is tough due to the logistics involved. Plus UCI has been pondering upon reorganising the race calendar. Sadly, don't see a grand tour race happening in Japan.. Giro struggles financially and Le Tour well ASO has very very deep pockets.
Deep pockets are the key, thats what gets brought to the table there and what cycling is always chasing in terms of team sponsorships. Japan only has a cycling weather gap in either the March-May zone or the September to December gap. If anything it would be the latter. A few little tour offshoots into Korea and China from time to time and off you go. Exposure potential and advertising in those markets would be attractive

doesn't work like that because no none of the leading world tour teams/riders would come into Asia to race. Even at TdU only a headlining name will come due to $$$ offered. Logistics is the reason why the core of racing will always be in Europe.

Depends on how many dollars or value proposition, every paradigm is vulnerable with something. The Uber/Amazon/Emirates/Elon Musk effect.

Morning and happy Monday to everyone. A very cold one here in Melbourne. What make it even better is the heating has decided to take a holiday. What makes that even better is the unit is outside & it’s just started to rain when I’m going out Tom look at it. What makes that even better is it’s 30 years old & you can’t just buy parts for it anymore.

I can see a call the heating & plumber guys coming.

Yep can see that on your cards, especially as you will be getting the fronts we had a few days ago.
I am still having my battle with NBN providers that has been going on for four weeks. Currently no internet because they decided to cancel the account and start again to try iron out all the bugs, but of course the cycle time on the backbone of the system is 3 to 10 days!! Probably not the finest decision they ever made. I am however getting sick of talking to call centers in Cape Town and Manila. Almost as much fun as the Telstra call center in Bangalore. I enjoy working from home when I want to and being in the office as little as possible, but this has forced me to have to interact in person with far too many people lately.

Hey misswannie, who’s your nbn provider? Looking at getting nbn here and can’t decide who to go with

Chose IINet/TPG for FttC connection as they buy the most bandwidth of the providers, so higher guaranteed speed. But like all of them the help is useless. On FttC Telstra has an interesting product with the modem equipped for 5G wireless as well if the fiber goes down. But lower speeds on Telstra.
While it was working properly for 4 days, I uploaded 1Gb of photos in a few minutes so it has a bit of pickup.

Yeah okay, we don’t get FTC we can only get wireless.silly nbn not future proofing area.

Thanks for the feedback but. Trying to stay clear of Telstra and Optus so looking for feedback on other providers.

Well you better not go out there at the moment unless carrying a brick in each hand otherwise the wind may blow you away.

I too am having heater issues although a temporary fix has been installed just waiting for the company to ring me back on a replacement part, been a week now. However this is the first time I've had issues with it.

Had to relight the pilot light on the hot water service as they had to turn off the gas to put in the temp fix, however it's been a while since I had to do that so getting down on the hands and knees was not fun. Love the instructions on those things..."you can now see the pilot light flame through the window below"...no I fucking can't unless I'm a small animal about 4 inches tall.

Yep they don't keep parts for old stuff anymore. These days it's all about producing items that aren't meant to last. If you can get more than 8 years out of anything these days it's considered well built.

Essentially NBN has the equipment for all of them, the providers are just retail fronts that buy bulk data to divide out. IINet/TPG big enough to buy enough data. I heard Vodafone also pretty good on data. some of the small players compete on price but there has to be some correlation to bandwidth you would think.

Yeah agree with you on that. Was thinking of iiNet or internode. Internode have been pretty helpful with mum in melb when she moved house as she is an internet dummy so to speak. Just looking at different plans and stuff, but the support leaves a lot to be desired. Generally I don’t call support that often but when I do would be good to talk to someone that can generally help.

I suspect that they are all going to be some degree of tell us your problem and then we will get back to you after we have asked NBN. But amongst that there are friendly and useful and dumb as skunks. I went with bandwidth, but suffered from the actions of a few dumb as skunks. If you have wireless then should be easy. FttC seems to be too new for the call centers.

One would think so,but still not sure. Guess just gonna have to bite the bullet and suck n see. Don’t like doing that too much with this kind of stuff specially if contracts are involved.

Thanks for the info but has been a great insight.

Afternoon all,

Well another week has gone this month and Rump continues to piss off more countries. I'm sure the Queen was wishing they still had beheadings in the Tower. Had to laugh at the spelling correction, I mean "would" and "wouldn't" are practically the same word if English wasn't your first language. It was probably a Russian translation error as it seemed the speech was written by the Russians.

So the single use plastic bags are now a thing of the past in supermarkets but everywhere else they are fine apparently. They'll be asking us to take buckets to the butchers next. "Yep mate just throw the sausages and chops in this plastic bucket, just mind the prawns, forget the other bucket".

Thus far I've been pretty good in remembering the bags. Only forgot them once and had to go back home. Just keeping them in the boot doesn't work as I'm so used to just getting out of the car and going into the shops. The checkout ladies are also complaining about the reusable bags in that they come in all different sizes so it slows things down plus their size means bags are heavier. The checkout ladies will have to go to start going to the gym.

Not hearing good things about this My Health Record system. Seems like they haven't thought this thru as they are only now thinking about making the app more secure after the system has been launched. Question is do we trust a govt sub-contractor with our medical records? Given that these days just about all govt IT is outsourced. So when they say govt records they mean it's managed by private industry. We'd be better off if it was administered by the porn industry.

Received my latest water bill and they had some good news for me. They have reduced the cost of the sewage charge, in fact they have halved the charge rate. So it's going to cost less to get rid of the shit. Sounds good right, until you read the bill closely and notice that they have increased the service charge for the water. So the thing that's the higher cost has in fact gone up. And besides given that there are more people living in the same street means I'm paying for other people's shit as well. So when they say you're in the shit, you're actually in other people's shit as well.

Hope the week is good for you.

All three actually use the same backbone as TPG now own iinet who owns internode. Unless things have changed in the last year the reason to go Internode is that their call centre is based in Adelaide and is very good. The other two have overseas based call centre's. You can also connect to Internode with a no contract option, and investigate Naked DSL which means you don't have to pay rental on a phone line.

Give it time, it's about forming habits. We have had this in S.A. for years and at first people were a bit antsy, now they couldn't give a stuff ;)

Yep I just have to unlearn stuff although I have forgotten the reusable bags two in the last three visits to the supermarket which is just annoying. I also do multiple tasks when I go to the supermarket so it's easy to forget to pick up the bags on the way out. As for this bottled water thing, well they should scrap that right away. Didn't have that when I younger and we got along just fine.

Afternoon all,

Just passing thru. Doing other stuff on the computer also checking the weather for the next few days. These rain forecasts are just not happening so planning to do stuff is guess work.

So it looks like Froome is done and Thomas will get yellow. Doing back to back grand tours is costing riders especially as they get older.

Thankfully I don't need to vote this weekend although did receive notification from the Labour party that I am now in a new electorate so I looked up the AEC website which told me I'm still in same electorate. I guess I'll find out at the next election.

Hope the rest of the week is good for you. I'm feeling so lazy given the weather.

I started by leaving mine by the front door, then as I was leaving it was a reminder.

Here in Tas, we've had the bag ban (such as it is..... many businesses still give out bags, only now they are thicker ones) for quite a while.
I keep my bags in the car. When I come home from shopping, I pack everything and then take the bags straight back to the car every time.
Mind you - I also have net vege bags as well as taking my own containers to my local butcher.
I'm a waste warrior..... I have reusable straws, cutlery, my own coffee cup, paper q-tips, bamboo toothbrush and homemade toothpaste, shampoo bars, etc.
My home is almost single-use plastic free. The only things I can't get rid of are medicine packs.

And no, I don't use rubbish bags. I make bin liners out of newspaper, have 2 worm farms for vege scraps, and recycle absolutely everything that can be.

I'm mostly on top of it now, it's just the random shopping on the way back from somewhere where I get caught out. A few cents a bag is ok then, but when unnamed supermarket brand charges differing amounts per store location and our one is 80c that I get a bit miffed. Fortunately the 24 hour Asian food supermarket and other 24 hour local mob have chosen to ignore the ban until fines come in in January, so all good.
Unfortunately we exported all our recyclables to China until the recent changes there, so it is all going into the landfill over here.

Morning all. Blue sky Monday. Might disappear to the beach for a quick roll in the surf and get some salt in me. Got to take advantage when you can.

Too cold over this side to get in the water. Bloody windy too. Get skin blasted off before hitting the water.

We have the northern current during the winter months so the water temp is good. It's just the getting out part, but sunny and 20 will not get your nipples in a twist
