Donald Trump has issued a dire warning to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, escalating a war of words over looming sanctions against Tehran.

Rouhani had warned Trump not to 'play with the lion's tail' before Trump let rip on Twitter late on Sunday night, saying: 'To Iranian President Rouhani: NEVER, EVER THREATEN THE UNITED STATES AGAIN OR YOU WILL SUFFER CONSEQUENCES THE LIKES OF WHICH FEW THROUGHOUT HISTORY HAVE EVER SUFFERED BEFORE.'

'WE ARE NO LONGER A COUNTRY THAT WILL STAND FOR YOUR DEMENTED WORDS OF VIOLENCE & DEATH. BE CAUTIOUS!'

But that only prompted Iran to further goad Trump, calling his reaction 'passive' and saying he 'won't dare' launch an attack.

LOL Rouhani doesn't understand Der Fuhrer. With Mueller breathing down his neck this is exactly the time for Herr Trump to start a war in order to protect himself.

The US Navy would slaughter Iran if they were really arsed to. There isn't anything Iran can do to defend their oil fields, infrastructure or cities. The Marine Air Force alone, much less the Navy's fleet, could shoot down Iran's entire air force in a day. The US Air Force wouldn't even have to wake up for this, much less the Army. Iran thought Saddam was bad, they haven't seen Madman Trump coming down on their asses.

But considering it's Trump, he'll cause global chaos in the process.

Assuming Rouhani's words were in any way threatening, President Obama, on the other hand, would have smacked Iran down with class, like he did when he very quietly retaliated to Putin by sending Russia's oil-based economy into a tailspin. No caps, no barking, just one good bite to Putin's neck and it was done.
