In a direct response to Tucker Carlson’s most recent coverage of that day, Pence said that portraying the events as mere touristry is false and morally wrong.

“Tourists don’t injure 140 police officers by sightseeing. Tourists don’t break down doors to get to the Speaker of the House. Or voice threats against public officials. The American people have a right to know what took place at the Capitol on January 6. I expect members of Fourth Estate to continue to do their job,” he said. “Make no mistake about it —what happened that day was a disgrace and it mocks decency to portray it in any other way.”
Pence blasted Trump much more directly, saying that he wasn’t afraid for himself but angry at Trump over the heinous comments his former running mate made throughout the day, which saw multiple threats against Pence and depictions of his execution for not overturning the election.

”I was not afraid but I was angry. President Trump was wrong,” Pence said in his speech. “I had no right to overturn the election. And his reckless words endangered my family and everyone at the Capitol that day.”
“I know that history will hold Donald Trump accountable,” he said.

his remarks were made at a white-tie politicians and press event; is he ramping up his presence now ready to declare a run?

This right here is how I feel about it as well.
“Make no mistake about it —what happened that day was a disgrace and it mocks decency to portray it in any other way.”

I'll add - it's also a disgrace to group everyone there that day that was protesting into the above. The people that came there to fuck shit up and block the certification of Joe Biden (or got caught up in that effort and ended up inside the Capitol) are the ones I'm speaking about.

Because Trump is still the Republican front runner, it takes a lot of courage for a Republican politician to condemn him.

Gee, could it be because he wants to run and thinks....what? That he'd be a choice over Desantis?
The Time to do this was oh, I don't know, two years ago?

Pence is the perfect political WEASEL. Without Trump having chosen him as his running mate he would still be someone that nobody knew who he was. He is riding on that notoriety in an attempt to be what he never was as VP...relevant. I would NEVER vote for him for president.

Guess Pence is trying to create a lane for himself in the GOP primary race but it’s hard to see his campaign catching any momentum. Trump supporters won’t move his way and many of those who don’t support Trump want the GOP to move on from Trump and people in his orbit. Add to that Pence is not the most charismatic politician on the national scene.
