Getting back to the topic of this thread, Trump's behavior in Helsinki may well turn out to be a turning point. He was rushing to implement his campaign statements about "better relations with Russia" and about NATO being obsolete. However, the country as a whole did not agree with what this fact-denying president did and said in Europe lately, and his lame half-hearted back-pedaling did little to change this situation.

So, here is this guy whose election was marred by Russian interference, advocating for better relations with Russia, and facing the results of a Russia-related investigation that has implicated some of his associates.

Note how the right-wingers on Lit are significantly raising the level of their shrillness regarding their defense of Trump and their promotion of conspiracy theories about American intelligence agencies. They are worried about the shift in attitudes that took place after Trump's performance with NATO allies and with Putin in Helsinki. Trump could lose support in the legislative bodies that will be making judgments about the results of the Mueller investigation.

It's a bit awkward to confront someone(Russia) about cheating; when you yourself(Uncle Sam) have been cheating.
